I was near the Ranger boats fishing on the white river and decided to take a tour of the factory. Cool thing was that it was Mickey Wood that gave us the tour. (incredible gentleman btw). Mickey as part of the tour, gave us the build process for the 3 brands and showed us the difference between their 3 tiers of boats. Being in the PE world myself and in manufacturing I asked alot of business related questions. The strategy is that Ranger is the top of the line and gets the best materials for structure, Triton (sorry guys) gets second best and Stratos gets 3rd. They are priced accordingly. Then we proceeded to look at boats in various stages of hull/topside construction to see the difference. they are all good boats though (I drive a stratos). He also laid out that this was the strategy of Platinum equity and their intent in purchasing Triton/Stratos was to consolidate much of the market during an economic downturn, offer the three tiers while creating synergies by consolidating all manufacturing into one plant, they also bought the Javelin brand but are not using it right now.

If any of you get a chance to take the tour Id recommend it, its actually a fun 2.5 hours

It is fairly common knowledge that Mr Hopper is no Champion fan. However these numbers are interesting. Making your competition disappear is a successful tactic at times.

Here are the results when people vote with their checkbook. These are national retail registrations of new boats for the first 3 quarters of 2012.

Ranger 2,386
Nitro 1,730
Skeeter 1,287
Triton 643
Stratos 377
Phoenix 281
Basscat 258
Legend 144
Blazer 56
Bullet 43
Charger 16
Allison 11

These numbers do not distinguish categories of boats, IE bay boats, walleye boats, fish and ski etc. They are 17-22 ft fiberglass boats by each brand.

You're not going to get tossed out if you know how to drive.

All I know is most of you have a nicer boat than I do. I have to work on mine all the time, but mine is paid for and floats. Every now and then it brings a check home, and the most important thing is I get to fish. I don't know why everyone has to.bash any other boat than what they own. Most manufacturers make a good product now days and they are all to expensive. Each boat is a little different and not everyone wants the exact same thing. That's just my opinion about it and I hope I can read something informative tomorrow since that is why I enjoy getting on here.
