The wait is over.. the bite is back on! Raul and I kayaked up and fished the lower end of the Yegua while the boys walked down from Newmans. We did well fishing the brush for crappie but caught mostly whitebass. The boys had it much tougher catching only 1 crappie, 1 white and 1 gar. We met up with them at the Wolf Pond area around 4pm and called it quits. Raul did good for a newbe to freshwater fishing, kayaking and the creek but he had a good guide

I am going to head out with my 3 boys this afternoon. Would any of you gentleman be able to tell me if we would be better to be at Irwin Bridge or Newman's Bottom?

FishingMama, I don't know that the White Bass have even made it up as far as Newman's Bottom. Most of the fish have been caught closer to the mouth of the Yegua, which is more easily accessed by kayak or canoe.

If you are going to try Newman's I would try fishing downstream in the deeper holes.

I wasn't able to fish Thursday as planned so I hit it today. Paddled from the Nails boat ramp at about 9:45am headed up the Yegua. I caught nothing in the creek till I got about 300yds up from the major tree block, I think that's about a mile down from the low water crossing at Newmans, maybe a little less. I caught 14 whites releasing 3 small males one goo and 3 small blacks that I also released. I saw and talked with 8 bank fisherman and they were catching an average of 5 fish each at around noon. I'm thinking the whites are still coming into the creek from the lake but not robust due to the low water flow. Made it back to the ramp after a tuff paddle against the south wind in the lake around 4:30....Lawton

More rain would help but I think you are correct about more fish coming into the creek because we caught several nice females Thursday but we only fished the last mile or so of the creek and didn't go above the Wolf Pond area. I don't know if the dark phase of the moon is better or the full moon but either way more rain and higher lake level will help more then anything else.

Ben: I'm to understand that whites see better in the dark than a lot of fish due to the size of their eye. I know this is the case with their cross striper offspring. The water temps are certainly up in the creek from a few weeks back, and this fact should trigger their reproductive urges...Lawton

Not enough water flow = pour white bass spawn. It will not take place up in the creeks with little to no water flow. Lets just hope for at least one good down poor in the Yegua water sheds. Other wise, it wont happen. But there's still eight weeks left in this years spawn period.

I fished the bank of the Yegua down stream from Newman's bottom. The bit was slow; I started the day crappie fishing. I managed to catch three in the brush but all where undersized. So I changed gears and fished for whites and ended up with 5 on the stringer and few more dinks.

Now that most of you-all are back at work how did your weekend fishing go?

Caught some really nice catfish Sunday on Lake Livingston. I'll be posting some pics in the photos section later today...

On the way to Livingston Saturday, late afternoon, my wife and I stopped by Nails Creek and fished for a few hours. Well I fished for a few hours while my wife whined about all the brush and thorns along the path. Even though I told her about three times to where jeans she insisted on wearing her sundress. So she ended up hanging out on the trail way bridge reading a book while I fished.

I caught and released five good sized White Bass. I really enjoy fishing that little creek, but the area around the bridge is kind of hard to fish now since all that brush has grown in. I guess with the lack of water recently there hasn't been enough bankers to beat down some paths.

I was hoping to catch some Crappie from under the bridge, but there was only about 2 foot or less of water under there.
