And said I couldn't fish in a public park and told me I had to leave. Been fishing there for years and never had anyone say anything about no fishing. Is this an actual law or is this cop an idiot?

He's an idiot if it is indeed a "public" park. If it's a community lake stocked and managed by the homeowners, then he may be right. However, it should be POSTED.

If it's on this list, it's a community fishing lake and he's in the wrong. Print the list and carry it with you if the pond is on here.

The only laws about fishing a public park is you can't keep any bass and you can only use one rod at a time.

It's prairie creek in Richardson. It's not the lake listed on the site but it is a creek that is a very public park. People get wedding pictures and stuff made down by the waterfall all the time. No signs posted anywhere and I know HOA does not have any ties with the park.

I used to live in Richardson. He's an idiot. Call the Richardson PD and ask them since when did this become law?

They can take our guns! But I"ll be dammed if they take our right to fish!!

Seriously though, you must have been slaying them, and he wants to run you off his spot.

Two things come to mind....

1) If where you were fishing was within the confines of the park and it's on the list then it's part of the community fishing lake. You're legal.

2) Since you've fished it for years and seem to enjoy it, I'd edit my (your) post so that the lake isn't listed. Otherwise you're likely to suddenly see a bigger crowd than you've ever experienced.

3) This one's an extra....the link I posted has a link for rules. It says that you're allowed 2 rod/reels and has rules for what the daily bag limits are for each type of fish.

Call the city office and try and get another answer from someone that works in the city park and recreation department.

Also found this under their Parks and recreation homepage.

Sling a 2oz rattle trap at his car smile

This seems to be the normal answer for pesky jet fleas and ski boats!
