My boys fished Nails creek Saturday with little to show for their efforts.. Fishing minus Uncle Ben doesn't add up to many fish on the stringer wink That might be where I go next just to see if there are fish in there or not!

Let us know when you intend to do a Nails exploratory, because I'm anxious to get back on the water in that area. I couldn't find rainfall amounts from today at Giddings and I don't think they got much rain. We have a pretty good chance for rain practiacaly every day for the next week. I will probably paddle out of Nails Park again this week regardless...Lawton

I'll be out there this Saturday heading up the Fish Camp event. So I probably won't get to kayak up the creeks but there should be plenty of paddlers to team up with and fish the creeks.

Posted the following notice....

Come to the State Park and enjoy the great outdoors!

Hosted at the Nails Creek Unit of Lake Somerville State Park & Trailway we will have programs on the schedule from 10am to 2pm including:

Knothead University- Know your knots with Professor Knot Head!

First several Knothead U. graduates will receive special graduation gift.

Flying Tyers- Watch and do! Tie your own fly with master fly tyers from the Brazos Valley Fly Fishers.

Fins and Feathers: Learn all about birds and birdwatching from the Master Naturalist & all about fish from the TPWD inland fisheries Biologist and Technicians.

Geocache Treasure hunting with Brazos Valley Geocacher's

Kayak and canoe basics & advanced rigging for fishing. Several paddling friends will be on hand to give guidance in all things kayaking and fishing. The park has a number of rental kayaks and canoes ready for the day.

1 mile guided or unguided hikes to the high ridge overlooking the scenic confluence of Yegua and Nails creek.

Late afternoon pot-luck meet and greet, cook and eat! : Representatives from TPWD, the Park Partners, Texas Outdoor Women Network (TOWN) Brazos Valley Geocachers, Houston Canoe Club, Texas Fishing Forum, Brazos Valley Fly Fishers and many other volunteers.

Stay after dark for a family gathering around the campfire to roast marshmallows, tell stories and make music by the light of a warm fire's glow... Bring your guitar and play in the quiet evening air.

Don't let a little rain stop you.. the fishing is just as good or bad in the rain wink Bring what you catch to the fish fry on Saturday afternoon and we will fry it up for you!

I'm planning on fishing the Yegua, paddling out of the Nails State Park boat ramp on Friday morning. I have an extra kayak, paddle and pfd if anyone wants to join me you are welcome at no charge, or if you have your own gear I plan on being at the ramp about 8:30am. I have done this trip 3 times in 3 weeks and have been catching 10 to 15 whites per trip. All these trips have been solo and I find myself talking out loud while upstream (maybe some of you Newman bank walkers have heard me) reply or shoot me a pm if you want to join me. Also you are welcome to ride with me if you live in the Waller area and can split gas money...Lawton

Man oh man I wish I could go this week but I'm flying solo at work for the next couple of weeks if not longer.. co-worker is on the jury for a murder trial that is expected to go three weeks or longer leaving only me to cover all the bases... But I will be at the Park Saturday come rain or shine.. hope to see all of you there especially late afternoon for the fish fry and campfire..

Stopped off at Irwins bridge this afternoon. Fished with a buddy for around 2 hrs and he caught 2 whites and a goo. No luck on my end haha. The ones he caught were up from the bridge in a little bit muddier water.

That tells me that there should be a few fish holding at Newman's Bottom in the deeper pools. It'll probably take a good rain to get them moving up in numbers though.

Thanks for the report!
