Me and the boys will be launching from the Nails Creek park ramp around 10am Saturday January 26, 2013 if anyone would like to join us to fish Yegua creek you are welcome to do so.. I know the way directions to Nails Creek Park http://goo.gl/maps/KdbV0 I'll be heading out from there about daylight and heading up the Yegua. I'll be in the white Malibu Mini X with WAY too much gear Hoping the whites bite, but I'm taking stuff for crappie and largemouth just in case. I've had pretty good lucik on black bass with the lake at 236.5ish before.

I recently rented a sit on top yak from there for 25 bucks for 4-8 hours flat rate or 7.50 per hour. They have ocean yaks for rent which was very easy to paddle and a smooth ride. They rent them from 8:30 to close but if the wind is high they wont rent them.
Side note but worth mentioning, Heather the station manager is the hottest game warden I have ever seen.
Hope this helped have fun.

Thanks, I will check it out. Headed that way in the morning and might give it a try after a couple of hours of walking the creek banks.

Side note but worth mentioning, Heather the station manager is the hottest game warden I have ever seen. Don't let the pretty face fool you guys.. that is one tough lady.. and she packs too! Not only is she the Nails Creek unit manager she also is the park law officer! If I was 20 years younger, better looking, taller, rich & single or any one of those things, I'd be at the park all the time!

Tough day on the Yegua Saturday with lots of friends kayaking the creek. I've can't remember the fishing so tough trying to catch whitebass or crappie on the creek this time of year We fished from about 11:00am until 4:30pm all the way up the creek about 4 miles or so from the lake. Everyone we talked to reported the same very slow bite. Between seven of us in my group we caught only seven or eight fish. My boys got there much earlier than me and my two kayaking buddies but that extra 3 hour head start didn't make any difference as far as fish caught. I'd of thought with overcast skies the bite would have been better but something sure gave the fish a bad case of lockjaw. Things that were different from last Saturday when the fish bit very well.. 1.) Full moon 2.) Creek dropped a few inches and lost much of the flow. 3.) Overcast but warmer, wind out of the south-southeast. I guess there was too much change happening all at once or maybe the whitebass moved further upstream? I put a lot of effort into crappie fishing this trip but that didn't pay off like in the past. To everyone that I met on the creek today: It was very nice to see you on the creek and thanks for coming to Nails Creek! We should do it again on Saturday February 9th. Now that you know the way to the Yegua from the lake you can show someone else and help out the state park in the process! Thanks again... and I'll see you on the creek!

Well that wasn't what I was hoping to hear. Thanks for the report. I'll just lower my expectations for tomorrow.

Yeah I was first one out (like a [censored] I headed out before daylight with no GPS and found the entrance to yegua basically by accident), and had to the bearer of bad news to a lot of paddlers after me...
I caught 3 on my trusty bandit 100 series (chart., blue back), but couldn't buy a crappie...I even tried largemouth fishing for a bit with no luck there either. Lots of nice people to chat with along the creek anyway. I miss being able to fish there more often.

An UN-verified rumor from Friday was that a couple of guys fished Nails Creek and found the fish biting. We considered yakin up Nails but by 4:30 or so we were whooped... No fish mojo to keep us going

Wow! No reports from today? I guess I'll be the first then. Very, very slow today. I fished with a guy from the Austin Bass Fishing forum and between the two of us we ended up with 4 White Bass, 2 Catfish, and 1 Drum in about 6 hours of fishing. All fish were caught out of Nails Creek. There was plenty of water in the creek once we got into the channel, but the fishing conditions were tough. The winds were strong even in the creek and when there wasn't wind there was lots of pollen, leaves, and other debris on the water. We actually spent a good amount of time fishing for Crappie, but couldn't get any to bite. They're in there though because we saw a guy fishing from the bank pull out a couple of really nice ones. On the way out we talked to a guy who had been fishing in Yegua Creek and he said it was slow there as well. I'm really glad we made the decision to fish Nails today because at the boat ramp we watched two guys struggling against the wind in a canoe. They told us it took them two hours to get from the mouth of Yegua Creek to the boat ramp!
