I was just commenting on jig fishing, telling xrecharge to be patient. Well I think I need to take my own medicine. I have no confidence in jerk baits and have read over and over they are great winter/early spring baits.
What do I need to know: favorite brands/colors for Texas and where and when to use them (beside in the water when I'm fishing).
Thanks for the edumacation!

Megabass 110 , best one In my opinion. Use them anytime water temps are cold or dropping. Match it with a rod that has the correct action and you'll do fine.

Lucky Craft pointer 78DD in sexy shad or shell color catches a bunch for me as well. The colder & cleaner the water gets the better.

A lot of guys including KVD use their spinnerbait rods for jerkbaits as well. I use a 6'10" Castaway Spinnerbait special. The slightly short length allows you to get the right action without splashing the tip of the rod in the water in the water.

I used to have a luckycraft pointer that suspended. got broke off trying to swing fish in boat for grandson.
if i didn't want to spend as much, or wanted to have a backup, what would be the NEXT choice for a suspending jerkbait that is heavy enough to use?

That or a small color variance has won alot of money in tourneys over the last three years for me and some friends I prefer the water temps to be a close as possible to 55 degrees Thrown with a 6.10 med rod with good hooks. and no more than 12lb flouro depending on how deep your targeting your gonna loose fish no matter what but this works well for me

Falcon Cara headturner, 6'10" is the perfect rod for jerk bait fishing. The tip and action as perfect!

I'm curious about this too. I usually use a tap-tap cadence, but sometimes I'll do some real heavy jerks and reeling with no specific pattern. The sometimes I do a long draw on the rod, let is sink or set, then a long draw, this is almost like ripping traps, but slower and more subtle. Are these good methods?
like the man says...if you're swimming in the ocean and get bitten by a shark, its not a shark attack. You're in THEIR neighborhood. If you're at home in your shower, turn around and a shark is in there with you...THAT'S a shark attack
