Favorite is the original Heddon Zara Spook.
Most productive is the 1/4 oz. Yellow Magic.

Any popper style that either walks or looks like a frog if theres thick grass. Key to hooking topwater fish is to wait a little while after the splash before setting the hook. If they do miss just give em time they will likely take a second shot at it.

I am going to have to get a yellow magic! What do you think sets them apart? I assume it is the action, but what makes it different from others and why has it not been duplicated in a less expensive lure?

I love topwater fishing as many people do.
As a kid, a Silver Torpedo was what I caught the most fish on, and sometimes still do but it doesn't seem to be as good. I thrown buzzbaits alot also, but I have really been using frogs the last year or two with alot of success. The soft plasstic frogs rigged correctly with a trailer hook work great and I haven't missed many. I fish an area with alot of cover and started using the Spro Frogs. The fish will kill them when the conditions are right, but I miss allot of them on the hook set.
1. Weedless Spro Frogs 2. Buzzbait 3. Tiny Torpedo (Silver/Blue) 4. Soft Plastic Frogs (Horny Toads) 5. Yellow Magic (These baits look awesome, in and out of the water, but I haven't caught many fish with them) 6. Zara Spook

I really like the Giant Dog-x for its action. Lunker punlers glide is also really cool and fun. Yellow magic, and H20 popers are very productive. I just got some of these off ebay. I can't wait to try them.
like the man says...if you're swimming in the ocean and get bitten by a shark, its not a shark attack. You're in THEIR neighborhood. If you're at home in your shower, turn around and a shark is in there with you...THAT'S a shark attack

by far it's the scum frog. it can be fished anywhere, and thru everything. but to be successful you have to learn to wait to set the hook, usually a two count. seeing a fish blast a hole in the thick scum such as on lake caddo is a heat atack waiting to happen.
