Great info, Ben. You could write a book on the topic.

I just completed a trip (Friday afternoon) around the lake to check out the creeks. Jerdelle, Cedar, Nails and Birch all have some water running in them but not a lot. Not to worry as the lake nears pool level there should be enough depth at the lower end of each creek to bring up the fish. More rain will make these smaller creeks better for whitebass otherwise the crappie will be the fish to catch.

The Yegua is looking good, running muddy and up a few feet. I hiked up to the ridge in the state park overlooking the upper end of the lake and confluence of Yegua and Nails creek. I found that there is plenty of water for the fish to move into either creek. The lake continues to rise and is currently @ 236.19 (4:30PM 11jan2013) More rain is in the forecast and the stage is set for a very good spring fishing season.

I'll be guiding paddling/fishing (kayak & canoe) trips up the Yegua and Nails starting in February and continuing through March. For more details on these trips keep an eye on this thread and my blog. I will be working loosely with the state park (Nails mostly) as they have several kayaks and canoes to rent. All experience levels are invited to participate and it is fun for the whole family. Depending on the group make-up we may focus more on fishing then paddling and site-seeing or vise- verse. Last year two routes were possible, Nails creek for a short trip (up to six miles) and the Yegua for a long trip (up to 13 miles). Currently the lake is just high enough for paddlers to access the creeks fairly easy but once the lake makes pool level all sorts of power boats can make the trip.

Thanks, again. Looks like you made the round trip around the lake.

It's great to see water in all those creeks again.

All, I'm thinking about having another fishing clinic/lunch/social at Nails Creek park early February. Is anyone interested in attending or helping out?

The idea behind these events is to share knowledge about creek fishing, promote the sport in general and help out the state park at the same time.

There is a host of topics we could discuss and demonstrate to visitors and folks new to fishing and the outdoors.

Kayaking/canoeing paddling sports
Crappie, whitebass and catfishing tactics.
Cleaning and cooking fish.
Outdoor education and more...

The variable in all of this is YOU. These events depend entirely on volunteers who are willing to share their time and talent in something much bigger than themselves to serve a greater good.

I can help depending on what weekend it falls on. I'm busy the weekend of Feb 2/3, but I'm free for Feb 9/10.

What? No catching going on yet? It should be any day now.
