Ditilled water is less than $1/gallon. Why would would you use anything else? Because tap water is cheaper? And becaus ethe short lifespan of a lead acid battery will not be shortened by using tap water. Industrial batteries, maybe.

Distilled water only. Any imurities can attach to the plates. If they get too thick a battery can short out but even if they don't they lessen the ability of the battery to store electricity. The dirtier the water the more you need to use distilled.
I've used tap water in an emergency but I'd drive to get some distilled if I had a choice.

Distilled water is $1.00 a gallon. New Batteries are over $100.
Now, just put in whatever you please,,,,I hear Coca Cola is great!!
