Here's my ..... I don't think there is really a bad time to fish Texoma. Time of year determines what technique to use, and where to use it. Go now and then plan another trip for the Spring, and you'll see what I mean.

The bigger fish are stacked up now. You can catch over 10 lbs pretty easily. The fish are feeding for the spawn so if you are looking for big fish it is on now. If you are looking for meat, anytime with bait.

Why wouldn't you want to hear from guides that guide on that lake?. Especially since they post their reports here . And late fall , right now and spring are your best times for big ones ...

I know you're trying to avoid the used car salesman sales push from the guides, but I can tell you from experience if you see a post from JD Lyle, John Hoppis, or Chris Carey, you might want to sit up and pay attention.

Texomalvr, you hit the nail on the head. I figure I am not going to get a sales pitch from people that fish for pleasure not profit.

Texomalvr, you hit the nail on the head. I figure I am not going to get a sales pitch from people that fish for pleasure not profit. FYI all of the guides I have met in person thru TFF have been great. Even when I am in my own boat & run into them out on the lake they pass along information about where the fish are & what they are hitting. Not to say there are exceptions but so far every one of them on TFF have been great. I'm going out for the first time with Ray Hubbard Guide- J.V. this Saturday & from what I read he's a stand up guy who wants to make you a better fisherman (or woman).

twinbubba, I'd bet most of the guides do this for fun also. While it is a sales pitch, in order for them to make a great living they have to have 2 trips a day 30 days a month 12 months a year @ $275 a trip which gives them a GROSS PROFIT of $198,000. to do that they spend 10 hours a day just on the water alone not counting prep time, cleaning fish and cleaning boats and such. While sometimes I think that guy Matt and Salsa somehow manages to do this I'll bet it's not so. Think about it, lets just $275 for 5 hrs on the lake. Their making $55 and hour before expenses and taxes. I'd bet they don't have 2 trips a day 30 days a month 12 months out of the year. if they do it 60% of the time its a gross of $118,000.00. For that kinda money and time involved they would have to LOVE WHAT THEY DO! Just saying. I'v talked to Roger Gray, Michael Little John, and Jimmy Smith this year some and I can assure you they Love what they do. just saying

I was not trying to belittle anyone I just wanted to hear from you guys that fish the lake regularly for fun or those of you that use guides regularly. I speak from experience when I say that sometime when it comes down to money that the truth can get stretched nine ways to Sunday. Example, many years ago I used to winter fish a crappie barge on Lake Lewisville often and sometimes caught a lot of good crappie. One morning I got there before daylight and had fished with several other people for over 2 1/2 hours and not one fish had been caught by anyone. Finally the phone rang and the barge owner started telling the person on the other end of the line, "Come on out, we are catching some nice fish this morning." After he hung up I asked him who he was lying to? He said that was the guy that writes the fishing report for the Dallas news paper and he had been saying he was going to come out and check the barge out. With that the owner went over to his minnow vatt and pulled a string of nice crappie he had caught the evening before out of it, threw the stringer over into one of the fishing wells, tied it to the rail then sat down to wait for the reporter to show up. True story! I liked the guy and he had taught me a lot about jigging for crappie but I never placed any faith in the fishing report in the paper after that.

Great story! Like they always say, chase fish and not reports. LOL! But seriously, all of these lakes should produce good fish right now. Me and my son went to Texoma last Saturday, with a guide, and the reports for the days leading up to it were phenomenal. We went Saturday and only caught 5. It was an off day for sure, but my son, on his first Texoma trip, caught his biggest striper ever, almost 20 pounds. I took my kayak up there 5 times previously and got 2 bites total. It's fishing. Good luck with whatever you decide to do! SS
