Mark , I just sent a email to my friend that participated in our carp brigade fishing fund raiser effort at Grapevine . I have informed her of this fantastic fishing program to get kids hooked on fishing . I hope she and her husband can bring their kids since they were our only group to not catch anything with us . Mark , I would love to see you and your son there , it is so much fun . I will pick up a extra jar of trout bait that will be enough for us all to use . You son will love these fish , they are scrappie fighters , and at 12" or larger , they are well worth coming to Fort Worth for . This aint no time to save fishing secret information , I am glad this thread was started and I hope many forum memebers , in particular those with kids , take adavntage of this opportunity . This is part of your money at work , come out and get your share of the fun

Yea I bit the bullet last friday and drove over an hr away to take my daughter fishing for these trout. besides that I couldn't wait from them to stock Allen, which you better bet I will be there tomorrow with bells on at 10:30 when they fall. That's a hop, skip, and jump away from me. Anyways, Lakeside in Duncanville the water was very low so the fish were holding out in the dead center between 5-7 FT. deep. To far to out to see the bobber. My daughter was eating the corn and what see wasn't eating she was throwing in the water. She was doing that since she saw me do it to chum the area. We didn't stay there long since it wasn't all that prime and since my daughter had eaten all the bait. Now I am excited about tomorrow, Bethany Lakes is a nice little hole to catch them out of. The water level is perfect, the city feeds it and the water is a perfect blue from the dye they put in it. Only problem I saw from the other day is that they need to weed eat around the bank closest to the parking lot. It was kinda high there an could pose a problem. Other then that it will be a nice, sunny, cold perfcect day for some trout fishing they way it was meant to be.

SkeeterRonnie: You said you ate one that tasted like dirt. Two things might have caused that. (1) the dark red blood sac in the top of the body cavity has to be completely removed - every speck of it. You have to break the last few ribs at the very back part a little bit to get it all out. I usually use a little tiny knife blade to scrape that part, or a small sharp rock if one's handy on the bank. (2) There is a strip of greyish colored fat that runs along the top. Take a very sharp filet knife and slice along the top of it down to the top of the rib cage on both sides of this fat strip. Go all the way back past the last fin on top. If you do it right, you can then grab the big part of it up where the head came off and pull with a pair of pliers. The whole strip will pull right off if you've done the slicing right. The whole dorsal fin with bones will come off at the same time with a little use of the pliers. The larger the trout, the more of this fat there is but they all have it and it's not tasty.
These two things may not have been what caused your trout to taste bad, but I guarantee both these things will improve the flavor compared to not doing them. Also, these stocker rainbows seem to get strong taste after they're frozen. They're much better fresh. I almost won't fool with freezing them anymore because of the difference in flavor. I like mine grilled on a piece of foil over coals in some lemon and butter with just a little salt and pepper. Yummy. Hope this helps you.

If you are going to Allen all I have to say is Supper Dupper, Supper Dupper, Supper Dupper. After losing the only one I had on me for the day. These three kids come up and I swear to you their first three casts they caught 3 fish a piece right off the bat. They were catching them left and right.
In case some don't know this and I find it very insulting for those that break the rules. The daily bag on trout is 5 A DAY!!! This doesn't mean catch 5 go home, dump them offgand come back for more. If you are lucky enough to get your 5, then call it a day. If you would like to come back the next day you're more then welcome to come back for 5 more. I saw numerous people catch thier limits leave, come back a few hours later and catch them again. Lets play fair and go by the rules set by the state. Wardens will be out tomorrow at all the places that have been stocked to this point enforcing the limts and checking for fishing lic. So just a heads up on that note. Sorry for the flame but it is kind of frustrating when you are with your kids trying to catch atleast one, and people around you are taking more then the limit allowed. It kind of sets a bad example to everyone involed, especially those who obey the rules and laws.

I do not have kids and that wont stop me from going and fishing for a fun to catch and tasty little freshwater fish that is not native to our parts , but in no way do I understand how folks take advantage of the program and each fish kept over a limit is a fish someone else did not get to catch . Especially the kids , sad , just a sad display of theivery .

To each his own. I have tried to enjoy baked trout many times in my 50 years (as of the 16th of this month ), but I personally find it to be nasty. Let me repeat... NASTY ... I must say though that I find most baked fish not to my liking. Give me some good ol' farm raised catfish...or 1-2 lb. LMB or even better crappie...fried of course. Ummmmm-hmmmmm!

I fished Tyler State Park on Tuesday. Trout were stocked early that morning and this was before the cold weather hit. I did pretty good. Caught several on chrome super duper and rainbow colored z-ray. I lost a lot of fish right at the edge of the water but it was fun - kept 3. They seem to be a little smaller than last year.

You may have tried this, but take the trout, roll them in flour, and fry them in butter. There are other ways of cooking trout besides baking.

I second that amen! and no worries Mike, I'm both my kids so you can teach us all how to get these suckers from stream to plate.

I've been fishing Tyler State Park for the past several years for trout when they're stocked. I've found that the Kastmaster in 1/12 oz. works well for me.
Biggist problem with them is that there is no place here in Texas that stocks the 1/12 oz. version. I have to order them online.
