Im looking for a new cast net. Will be using it to catch big gizzard shad off a boat in deep water. Im thinking I want a 7' (wish I could use 8' or 9' but I know there not legal)with 1/2" mesh and a lot of weight, either 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 lb per foot. What suggestions do you have for a reasonable priced net. I have a gift card to cabelas so if they have a good one there like im describing that would be perfect. Thanks

Bait buster, joy fish. Order online or some folks here on the forum might chime in with some they have for sale.

Yep i lost five in one weekend to texoma. Just seems like everytime i go i donate a net to the lake. There is a brand new net about 30 yards out from the boat ramp at lakeland on lavon. Dang thing slipped of my wrist and down it went.

I like the fitec super spreader. I've had several each of the baitfish & joyfish nets. not impressed with either.

What about using a 1/4" to catch minnows? I always see lots of small minnows along the shore at night. I'm thinking several wadded on a hook would make good bait if no shad were available. Plus you could use them for crappie.
