Afternoon y'all,
After watching some videos on the benefits of a kayak outrigger, I decided to build one for my kayak out of PVC.
However, I want some of yalls opinions before starting on the method that I want go after.
I have a Castaway 116, and there's 2 flush mount rod holders behind the seat that I never use (the rod holders that I use are on the milk crate that I made).
Rather than drill more holes into the kayak and spend more money on materials, I wanted to insert the PVC pipes into the flush mount rod holders and use PVC elbows to angle them back down.
From there, It'll be connected with more PVC pipe, then into the "Tee" where the floats will be connected.
What do y'all think?
I'm always looking to keep costs down and keep things simple.

Yes you can stand. It's very stable. I'm not sure I could tip it if I tried. The day I first tried them out I had gotten a lure stuck in a stump and had broken off. Went back to it with them on and was able to lean over the side and reach down to my shoulder and get the lure back.

Todd, Thanks. You're outrigger looks great and tough.
I was considering making my outrigger in 2 pieces (1 for each side). I want to fish lakes and bays and want to be able to remove them when I have to paddle long distances.

Finished! Well almost, I painted the PVC black. TOTAL COST: $55.00 Surprising the most expensive items were the floats themselves which I got at Yak Gear for $40. To keep the arms from spinning and slipping out, I drilled some holes and used eye bolts as "pins" to keep them in place. The eyebolts are tied to the seat to prevent loss. Now all I need is for the paint to dry and for good weather to come our way......
