Thanks SoCal, I currently use my German collapsible rods for carp and some cheap Black Phantom 2's. I catch some big fish but can't cast that far with the method. I am looking at a great deal on some chub rods and was just wondering if anyone used them before. Mike in Austin said he has a 9 footer and it is good for margins.

Carpfisher whatever you buy don't replace you black phantom's with a 9' rod expecting more distance with method balls.Your black phantom's will cast a moderate size method ball probably significantly farther than the 9' rod.I have owned the black phantom's and still use one to this day. With proper casting technique you should be hitting 65yards with consistency with a moderate size method ball.Check out the mark hutchinson long casting videos.Casting Technique is very important.Of course a heavier test curve in a 12 to 13 foot top notch rod like the huxleys will help a ton.Your casting long range method balls will always be limited by the size of the method ball because of the aerodynamics of the larger method ball will severely limit your distance.

Thanks tumater. I like my phantoms, they just don't cast very far. I want to fish for the Giant Carp up at Rayburn and i need something that will cast far and haul in those heavy fish up there. I give up on the chub rods. I am leaning towards the huxleys if amadeo can help me out. I haven't gotten a raise in years and being a public servant, the pay is not glamorous. My german rods are awesome, i just get a lot of onlookers that haven't seen collapsible rods. However, they are not meant for casting method balls.

I haven't gotten a raise in years and being a public servant, the pay is not glamorous. I here ya. I had to sell two of my black phantom's and downgrade to my $16 BFS rods.More often than not I eat my method materials like can corn, cream corn, and oats before we use them for fishing.Hill Country fare is the tastiest and cheapest corn.We avoid swims that require tossing method over 65yards.Still able to get 2 new PB commons of 33 and 37lbs last year.

Thanks Nick, I just got wind of another good place in Anahuac from a guy who works for the water district. He put me on a spot and I will let you know. He told me that it is deep and holds buffs.

Good advice, I would avoid having to chunk method over 65 yards too. That would require a talent that the lord has not blessed me with.

John A higher test curve and some practice will help with distance. Black Phantoms are, I believe, 2.5 tc so if you get 3.0+ you will see more distance and handle more weight as well. Chub have good reputation for both quality and service. If I had the spare $$ I'd go with the Huxleys but they aren't high on my financial priorities. Hopefully we'll have a chance to meet up before I move to Michigan around the end of March and you can try out my 3.5 Razors as well as my 3.25 Carp Riders to experience the difference.

Thanks Brian. We will meet again before you leave. I appreciate your help, I have learned a thing or two from you. I am looking at the Huxley's. Going to work some overtime to pay for the rods. I read their reviews and they are great.
