The fish caught today was a awesome fish, very healthy. Yeah I had the fish to the boat 3 different times but she would peel again, I was throwing a 1 ounce jig with a 5'crawl trailer. When I pitched to the area it went about 1/2 way down and stopped, never felt the bite, my line just started to swim. She had the bait pretty deep and since she was just drilling down those top teeth shredded the line and the last run she made got me. I had 3 good looks at her and she was in the 12 to 14 pound class with out a doubt. It actually has been a tough bite on dunlap but there is some monsters in the lake. I also found it kind of interesting that the is a official record for a rainbow trout on this lake 1.8 pounds and 18 inches long. I think there are a few trout they live on this chain year round. Maybe some of these bigger fish have one for dinner time to time. Congrats to Mathew on a great fish and congrats on the win in the lunker hunters event today. River Assisan, Thats a good wall behind to fish, Nice fish as well.

Man you gotta love Texas. Where else can you find so many 500 acre or less lakes that hold 13+ lb bass? And that green water. . .wow it looks amazing.

So does anybody have a pic of it? It's not the one river assassin caught is it? That's a nice fish but looks to be in the 8-9lb range.

Dunlap is a just a wide deep damed up stretch of the Guadalupe River, thats why the water is that cold beautiful blue green and even has some resident trout. Like Lake Austin those fish seem to thrive in those dammed up hill country rivers.

This lake had a stocking of Florida in 1988, (41,194) in 1996 I actually caught my first double digit fish from here. I fished it a few more times then Just never had the time to come back for what ever reason. When I caught my big fish back then I saw the gentlemen who use to write for Honeyhole out there that lived in Laredo and did the falcon reports. I will have to get the old Magazine out and look up his name. Lewis I think was it. I know he is no longer with us but he also caught a bigger one that day and he was fishing water I just fished, lol. I told him i just got his attention so he could catch him. I know since I started coming back about 5 weeks or so I have a 8.9lb a 7.14lb, several from the 2 to 4 pound class and todays heart breaker. Ok I actually had a thought before I started rambling but I mentioned that the lake has not been stocked since 1988. It seems to have a good stock of a lot of fish with a lot of big fish. It leads me to a few questions.
1. Do you think over stocking a lake and not allowing natural spawning in the lake to take place hurts some lakes at times?

2. Since the fish caught today I am guessing was spawned naturally in this lake. What are the chances of it being 100% Florida?

Stax, it hurt today and it was a long cold 3 hours after but hey there is always tomorrow. smile

Beautiful markings on this fish I wonder if they can tell the age of this bass? I'm no expert but I don't think this fish is done growing. I have three really good pics but I'm trying to remember my photobucket password. I would like to post some of the other pics of Dunlap fish we caught this year as well.

I think if you cut the fish in half you can count the rings to distinguish the age.
