Table Rock, good lake, good scenery, and if fish won't bite there is always Branson.
+1 Table Rock for sure..... great lake. Fishing is awesome and the scenery is even better,,,,,,especially in the fall and spring!!! Table Rock is fun to fish for sure. Something closer that I've caught some Smallmouth up to 3 lbs and Largemouth up to 7 lbs is Lake of the Arbuckles in Oklahoma, straight up 35, 2 hours from Ft. Worth. Red River is also a great place to go, and the casinos are there for nighttime entertainment.

Lots of lakes in Missouri Lake of the Ozarks Table Rock Truman Bull Shoals Just to name a few. Dont forget about Guntersville, stay at the State Park, cabin or room at the lodge. Very scenic and the wife would like If you want her to have fun I'd say table rock because of the other attractions. The other lakes really don't have much around them and would be more difficult for an inexperienced angler.

Lake Ouachita is beautiful and they have huge stripers. Talking about 30-40lb range. Average size for me has been 12-15lbs. I have a great guide that I use up there. His name is David Cochran. Yes he is the son of George Cochran. If you want some contact info pm me.

Table Rock, great lake very nice area plus lots of different types of fish in the lake. Taneycomo is right there for more bass fishing and plently of rainbow and brown trout. Plus Springfield and the big bass pro is only 1 hour away!

Norfork Lake Arkansas. Great fishing and scenery. Smallmouth, Largemouth, Kentuckies, Strippers, Hybrid Stripers and Sandbass. My favorite month is May because the Strippers and Hybrids are schooling on top and that makes for great topwater fishing. Lots of rock cliffs and gravel banks for smallmouth and lots of old timber in coves for largemouth. Not crowded with boats and the food in Mountain Home is great. Also, there is an additional bonus of Trout fishing in the White River below the Dam. Quiet, isolated, scenery, beautiful clear water and great fishing.

Broken Bow and McGee Creek. Both in Southeast Oklahoma and about a 4 hour drive.
If we concentrated on the really important stuff in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles
