I've heard that Rhodes is low due to drilling, or fracking.

Any truth to that?

In any case, it is a beautiful piece of water under normal conditions.

Like Ninja said, probably better to head on up to Amon Carter.

The Grasslands can be confusing, but it is a great place to get lost. You definitely want to bring along a map.

Are there crappie in these lakes? I hear about some catfish and of course a lot of smaller bass.

There are in black. Not a lot of size but numbers.

Yes, but you need to get a permit.

Permit? Last time I was camping up there (black lake) you just put your $2 in the collection box. I've camped clear lake and there's no charge. Just pull up and set up camp.

This something new?

I have never paid at Clear or Rhodes. Black creek yes.

As far as fracking at Rhodes. I believe Dean is correct. But Dean did do pretty good there when we did the NTKBF tourney at the Grass lands.

Since all of LBJ grassland lakes are down I would go to either Cottonwood or Black Creek. They atleast hold the most amount of water. Was an interesting paddle going up in the small creek of Rhodes to see what the substructure will look like when the lake does go back up.

Maybe I misunderstood from I heard, so I'm probably wrong.

You don't need a permit to camp in the grasslands

Should have listened about the duck hunting..... arrived at clear lake this morning and there were probably a dozen hunters surrounding the lake. Tried amon Carter instead (thanks for the recommendation). Caught a couple dinks before front moved in. Great little lake, will be back for sure.

It was opening weekend of the second split so I bet it was crazy with too many hunters on that small lake.

Actually the most obvious which is about 50yds from the boat ramp. For whatever reason I'm cursed on Black Creek so it is my least favorite to fish. Will work to break this in the spring.
