Try this. 1/4-3/8oz toad wrangler finesse jig pb&j, camo or green pumkin blue. Use half a baby brush hog or a xcite raptor chunk in green pumpkin or in Okeechobee craw. These jigs how stouter hook and are sweet. Pm me if u have any questions. I have a couple I could send ya or u can come pick them up for free. Thanks Jake

I had a day last year on Choke when all I could get bit on was a 3/16 oz. jig in watermelon. I was fishing a cove across from calliham in 2 ft. of water.

I use 1/4 ounce strike king bitsy bug flip jigs only, (I only go heavier in water deeper than 12ft) and use trailers that match for the water color that I am fishing. First color that I would use in the water that you described would be black/blue with a matching trailer. Then I would go to my darker green colors, keep it simple until you get the hang of what works best for you then start experimenting with different sizes and colors when your confidence is built up, this is the best way to become a jig master, my first good experience with jigs was when I left all my tackle at home except for jigs that way I could not go back to my usual baits when I wasnt gettign bit. Also if you have a worm or creature bait that you catch fish on and use that for a trailer, the fish are already eating it now you are giving them a different look. Good luck.

Ken, I think any good Football Head Jig is good, I like the ones with the Gamagatsu hooks on them. I keep the the colors simple in brown and Grren and my favorite trailer is a Dean Rojas fighting frog. Here is why I like the heavier Jig, when you pitch it to your spot you want it to have a fast fall, I think if a big bass has time to look at something chances are he might not bite, if it falls fast and he has to make the decision to strike like a reaction bite they tend to take the bait better and you get a better hook up, A heavier jig you can feel better when you are working it along the bottom, feel all the little things and by doing that you can limp it over a limb or rock or what ever it is you are working. It also stirs up more sediment and stuff and may draw some attention from a bass that might be a little bit away from the area you are working. For me atleast I think I have better control pitching a heaiver jig, able to get a lot closer to the target when fishing docks etc. I am sure a heavier jig is not the best all the time no bait is but the last few weeks where I have fished I have caught 2 over 7 on the heavy jig and 0 bites on the lighter fisher the same areas.
I am blessed to have a opportunity to live a childhood dream as a professional wrestler

DHolding not a bad look at the way you like to fish a jig, the fast presentation can be a good one, I dont have any problem hitting my targets with the 1/4 oz. even on windy days, and I can feel everything my jig comes in contact with down to at least 12 feet of water. Different folks with different strokes. Practice and confidence is always the best answer.

Im actually doing better with the Santone's heavy jigs (3/4 to 1oz)myself right now. So much in fact that it defies explaination. As a rule I throw A 3/8TH oz in water less than say around 12'...unless there is some kind of grass present, then I will go up to an 1/2oz. The same results as DHOLDING stated. I can use same jig make, same color, on same line with the difference being only the weight of the jig. Heavy will produce, light will blank. After throwing these 1oz plus grass jigs for months my arms and wrist needs a rest lol. Blk/blu or blk/red should be the color of choice presently...but PB&J and PB&BERRY and dark green pumpkin are still out fishing the dark colors. This is even holding true during the night. This info is current on our clear water lakes here in the ATX area and your experiences may differ.

Arky jig, no need to re-invent the wheel on this one. This head style is the best for brush/timber. It will get hung up far less and usually has a very stout hook. It's the one that is commonly referred to as a flipping jig by lot's of companies.
