The bait house at AH recently returned to allowing after hours bait purchases on the honor system. I understand that they had quit the honor system because someone cleaned them out of minnows.

My buddy was there Thanksgiving day and purchased some to take his grandson fishing. He said there were a lot of minnows left.

I got there at 8:30 this morning and there was not one minnow in any tank. Not one.

I think someone went in there and cleaned them out. If they paid, that is OK. But I am pretty sure they cleaned them out and stole them. The store was closed, so I couldn't confirm this.

Why is it that a few classless AHoles do things like this that hurt not only the business, but honest sportsmen who are glad to pay their way.

I'll get off my soapbox, but I would be more than happy to help get these folks in jail. The signs in the minnow house say they have video. I hope they can get these guys on TV and get them ID'd.

Always a minnow back up plan.

COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

They did open it back up a while back and it sure makes it convenient going in prior to their "off season" later opening hours. I appreciate them doing that for us and hope they catch the SOB that stole their goods, if that is what happened.
However, Dad and I went in early Wednesday morning before thanksgiving and they had minnows, but I wouldn't say they had so many they could not have run out legitimately the 2 morning's later Fergy mentioned.
I went in mid August and the young girl must have given me 3-4 times what I purchased. There were so many it literally overloaded my little bait tank on my kayak and many died before I could thin them out.
When we get minnows on the honor system we just get a "generous dozen" like they always sell us when they count them out for us.

I hope they haven't quit the honor system again. Dad and I are planning an early trip again this Sunday.

Well there was not a theft or other problem at Tripps Bait House. They keep the middle door locked at night and the majority of their minnows are in the back room so that IF someone does get greedy and takes all their minnows they only get what is in the front room.
They have plenty of minnows today and were not out last Friday. I think they had just cleaned the outer room tanks and maybe didn't get any transfered to them before they closed for the day.
I am glad to know there was not a serious problem, although the guys who didn't find ANY minnows last Friday probably saw it as a BIG problem.

Thanks for the information. I'm glad to hear they didn't have a theft. Guess I just hit the wrong day.

How did you do?

I spent the day picking up a boat I am thinking about buying. I have to check out the motor, etc. I don't really need another boat, but it would be nice to have a small aluminum again. My pontoon is awfully hard to hold still on a windy day.

Last Wednesday we had a good day. We caught a few keeper crappie and several spots. We were up grape Creek early then later up Gobler. It was kind of like a spring pattern. They were in 2-8 ft of water next to the trees. It's the first time in a long time I've fished shallow for crappie using minnows and a slip cork rig. It was fun.
We are going again in the morning to see if we learned anything last trip that we can build on this time.

I've bought 2 dozen minnows and got like 50 minnows in my bucket before. Which is a serious waste for me cause I haven't found crappie since July. I hope people aren't being shitty but sometimes there are some sketchy characters fishing the dock. Those people that run trips are great. I wish the good guys could just have the "combination" to the minnow room.

Got plenty of minnows before 7 AM today. At about 1 PM we went in for a cheesee burger only to find they were cleaning out the store. The folks running the restaurant are quitting. Someone else will probably pick it up but they were not sure. They felt like the minnow operation would be continued by someone, not sure.
We caught one tiny crappie, 2 nice drum, several small spotted bass, and one "green trash fish". He was 23", 7.5 lbs and caught by dropping a minnow on a 9 ft crappie pole in about 3-4 ft of brush way up Grape creek. The light weight pole like a willow branch whooped him into submission. He was CPR'd.

Was thinking about going this week. Can you still get minnows in the morning? Any catching off the bank or dock?

Is Nancy's Bait House in Post still in business? When I lived in Lubbock (and this was when AH first opened), she was open 24/7.
