I'm still utterly surprised that anything would eat a fishbite! Anyway, that looks really fun - I'm going to try to get past the whiting on Padre Island surf to try the pompano. They look like a blast!

I caught 2 pompano on 91st pier on Sat. Water was rough and sandy/muddy. They hang out just inside or outside the 3rd sandbar. And they hit shrimp Fish Bites. Chartreuse has been the best but pink works too.

Hi Back2fishing,
Where did you find those FishBites? I have tried Walmart, Academy, and Gander Mnt without luck. Gander Mnt carries a few of Fish Bites, but in crab and clam flavors.

Crab or clam flavors work fine. Real peeled fresh dead shrimp works very good too. Sandfleas are the best bait, you can catch them yourself on the beach. Do a search on Youtube for sandfleas and how to catch them. I think you can even buy a Gulp sandflea, but I can't say how they work cause I've never tried them.

I order mine online from BassPro for free in store pick up. That saves a wasted trip if they are out of the flavors that I use.

Get them at Academy now but they just started getting them in I've been told. Some of the H.E.B. stores along the coast have them also. You can ask your nearby H.E.B. to order you some and they will usually comply. Some of the Ma and Pa tackle shops carry em, but usually they are overpriced or old there.

HEB has the lowest price on FihsBites. Roy's bait and tackle has them in all types, but the price is like a buck more than HEB.

I have never thought of HEB. According to Rebort, Basspro should carry them. I will try the Basspro in Katy Mill, not too far from where I live. If not, I will try another Basspro on my way to Surfside this weekend. Really want to hook on some poms before this Christmas :-)

There is no HEB in Galveston, they never rebuilt it after Ike, I think it was.

"Fishbites" are to me the best artificial bait out there. I have used the small size strips to catch black drum in GSU canal until my arms hurt. They have also work very well for bull reds at the jetties, just generally have to use the bigger strips.

The pompano are running. Caught these this morning. I could have caught many more but my freezer is full and the Texans are playing.
Nice catches. Will the pomps be there in January? I know it depends on water clarity. I'm looking to try my jetski and fish for pomps.

Jetski in January? Do you have a wetsuit?
