James is at it again...call it marketing...predicting a new lake record and loads of big bass to come in the near future... I hope so!...but today there are no bites!

Hope it's the NEAR future as December has been really good in all the past years for spawning bass on Falcon.

Just one more cast!

The possesion limit on Gar is one...that means you should dispose of all you catch, if any. And run over as many as you can!

I think there's only one paper map widely available for Falcon - from AID Associates. It covers both Falcon and Choke Canyon. The tackle stores in Zapata stock it.

Cesar, we're not in any danger of running out of bass due to gar.

I was down there in Sept. and watched several weighin's. We caught a couple of fish that had been bitten by a gar. Also saw numerous fish at the scales with bite marks.
The thing that caught my attention most, was the reports of how many big gar were being caught while bass fishing.. I caught 2 that were both over 4 feet long. One on a crank-bait, the other on a plastic. Both were hooked IN THE MOUTH. In 30 + years of fishing I have never done that before.. Tells me they are struggling to make a living.
Just my opinion, but I figure the fish population has taken a big hit. However I have found most times when these same conditions have happened before, a lot of fish pull out and suspend. They get tired of losing there house every few days when the water drops. They follow some bait fish out, then stay out. But--they will be back as soon as they get the urge to spawn. Just my opinion.

I will admit I caught 2 mangled bass during champs that had been chewed on but didnt think much of it.

I did get a massive gar there this past year on a jig. Was entertaining I thought for a few that I had the world record on lol

Hey Papie....that's a great time to be down here. Buy the Navionics Map App for your smart phone and study up. I would also make sure you have either a Lakemaster chip or Navionics chip for your fishfinders. These will show you the river and creek channels. It is very important to stay in them, especially for the fact that it is your first time here on the lake. Tackle? The only really consistant bait that has produced every single month has been the crankbait. 6xds, Bombers (bd7's or 8's) Norman DD22's etc etc. Shallow cranks and T-rigs (baby and full size hogs in W/R and June bug depending on clarity and fall rate of the water when you are here) in the hardwoods on the North end of the lake will certainly be a very good option very, very soon.

GL while you are down.
