I like all the different points of view about "Trolling". I personally do not like to troll , but I have learned that when you have kids or folks that dont fish very often. Sitting in one spot when they are not biting is boring to them. I have been at the lake and the bite is off and the kids start whining if I start trolling they are not bored and we usually will catch a few fish. I just troll away from other boaters but on the occasion that we get anywhere near another boat (200 yards). They normaly get that pit bull look like they think Im doing something to them.

Agreed! If I am trolling in my pontoon and have two markers out for a trolling path, don't pull up in between them and throw out an anchor and startslabbing...respect my rights as I wasd there first. I won't troll through you catching your fishif I pass you and you are slabbing them up. Respect my water as well...

Good thread. I enjoy reading construcive threads with different points of views. I will break out the Jet Divers for trolling, typically in hot weather. We all owe it to one another to understand and practice these unwritten rules. We will always have those that believe the rules don't apply to them, the good news, they are a small percentage.

Great topic. I love to fish...I troll ...I fish live bait ...I fish artificial...makes know difference to me...depending upon what I'm fishin for and what it takes to get them biting...you do not troll a hump that is being slabed lll and don't pull up tryin to slab on a hump that is being trolled ...because of the GPS there are not a whole lot of marker buoys any more....if you have a troller or a slabber that.plows up during schooling action.....than he or she doesn't know how to.fish to.begin with. By the way I believe I can catch more.fish for.a.fish fry faster trolling.....also I have had guides in the last part of July and second week of august this year blow.up.on me while I was.trolling ...so there does need.to be some etiquitte...

When the Summer heats arrives I open up the top on my pontoon for some shade, kick up a little classic rock on the radio and focus on my sidescan at the console. From there I recalibrate my trolling pattern or use my trolling motor to fish vertically. It breaks up the day for me, and when I have a few of my grandkids on board it helps to keep them engaged. My 90 HP Honda is perfect for trolling.

If I see someone trolling I figure they are drunk and have beer goggles on and try to run interference. Wait.....oh you meant trolling baits on the water while fishing. My bad.

I had a guy the other day come by me and I didn't mine. I was sticking to a spot that I had 3 in the boat at. He come by me and was staring at his graph, then threw his line about 15 yds from my boat. I had my 4yr old with me, so I was nice but firm he got the point. I wouldn't have had a problem with him coming by, but when he casted it just showed disrespect on his part to me and my little one.

On occasion I troll because I don't have a trolling motor on my CC. I stay away from the boat shows because I catch more fish.

Holzer just because someone has the etiquette of a trolling weight and goes trolling on a trolling etiquette thread to say he thinks trollers don't know how to fish because they are trolling will be ignored because they are nothing but a troll out trollIng of a troller to respond to there childish trolling.

This is a great thread and 5gun has shared some good info! It needs another run thru!

Trolling is a great way to catch fish. Sometimes the only way in Late Summer. Remember it's fishing, not politics. If ya don't like to troll, then don't.
