Is there a + sign on the screen where the cursor should be ?

Try hitting the exit button and see if that helps.

While fishing, our HDS5 was working one minute and then shut itself off and will not power on. We tried it with fresh batteries and it still will not power on. Took it to All Star in Lewisville and they said the only solution was to send it to Lowrance. Called Lowrance and they want $450. to fix it. Do I have any other options? It was purchased in mid 2009.

Maybe dumb question. Did you check the fuse?

It's my casual, admittedly uninformed impression, based on screen shots I've seen here and there, that these Elite DSI units aren't going to give you anything like the clarity and detail you get with HDS/LSS-1 StructureScan. But perhaps you were aready aware of that.

It was tested on several different batteries without fuses.

Look at the line across the screen at about the 3 ft. mark. The display is telling you the depth at a point marked by your cursor, probably inadvertently. You can remove it by pressing the Exit button. You definitely need to increase your sensitivity on 2d. You might try just leaving it on Auto until you get a feel for it.

Hmmm odd, maybe Duff is right but my cursor always has the "+" mark. All I can def say is my graph has never done that.

Oh, I'm just guessing. I'm thinking the "+" scrolled off the screen, leaving the line behind it.

I think you might very well be right on track. I'd try it on my graph if it wasn't in lockdown for winter.
