I gigged one yesterday at 22"five1/2 pound.

27 inch catch on GULP MINNOW GRUB 2".

Gigged one at the pass a few years ago that was 28" and went a hair over 9lbs. I will post a pic of it this afternoon.

Well I just found anther fish on the same cutting board. This is obviously a slot red since I brought it home, so I would guess the flounder was in the 20-22" range

Caught these two big girls a couple years ago. Don't remember how long they were but probably 22-24"

OK this dude just broke the record.Caught yesterday 10 plus pounder.God why can't it be me.I woulda haved that fish Taxidermy.

Here is the San Luis Pass Flounder I gigged sometime ago. The date on the pic is wrong. This Flounder was gigged in November or December and was in 08 I think. 28" and 9lbs.

About 10 years ago I gigged a 34" no pic though

I know gigging is legal,but IMO is not a fishing because the fish have no chance like when you fish with rod &reel.

I agree with you Jean. To me it's not as challenging as with a rod n reel trying to trick them into eating something not real. But it's still enjoyable for me to get out there 2 or 3 times a year wading around and stabbing a few for the freezer. It always brings back memories of when I was a kid out Flounder gigging with my Great Grandfather who taught me how to gig down in Port Lavaca and Port O.

About twenty years ago the ex and I had a day at Sabine Pass. We kept 25 between us and the monster was a 29 & 3/4 inches doormat(almost 10 pounds) I caught it on live a finger mullet.
All of the fish we kept were over 4 pounds, and caught on rod and reel.
Live finger mullet fished with a bottom bouncing rig over an oyster reef.
The big one had three rigs it bitten off during the day in it's stomach. Hook,and weight.

What test line and leader were you using.Thats a monster for sure.Wish you had a picture.

I don't know what test line was use to catch the big flounder,but i was catching one 40 inch,23lb. red fish on jig with FIRELINE ORIGINAL SMOKE 4LB.+14lb. fluorocarbon leader,so you can catch easy one 10 lb. flounder with 4lb. line:
