I got a new STX and winch.

STX is good and the winch i don't like at all.

I still like my Lews tourney pro's better for smoothness and castability, but i like the handles on the new revo's better.

Both have goods and bads, i like them both and i think it will boil down to personal preference for most.

Can't go wrong with the new STX, i'm hoping the winch was just a dud, but me and my partner both bought them when they came out, and neither one of us was pleased..

I haven't used my sx in forever, but i thought it was 9??

Anyway, sx is good, but i prefer my stx's over it.

Mine is a gen1, and I'm pretty sure my old gen2 had 11 as well. I thought the only difference between the two was the dual braking? I know the S series has 9 bearings, though. Either way, the Revo is a hell of a reel.

I have some of the new SX's and they are amazing reels for the price. Haven't had the chance to fish one of the new STX's yet but I'm sure they are great reels

Interesting. Do you know if Bass Pro carries the old premier?
And the carbon lite seems really good only
129.99 and the STX 199.99

Both have the dual braking system and 10 ball bearings but the STX had 1 additional rolling bearing.
All that matters to me is the ball bearings and braking system / stainless steel material.
Is there anything else I should be looking for in a reel?

I would suggest sending back the dud... There were problems with the first ones sent out and ABU will stand behind their product as long as there is not signs of abuse to the reel. They can tell the product had defective parts on the reel.. give it a shot. Can't hurt.

I love my SX's and my Winch. Never had a problem with any of them.

I have 9 Revo SX, 3 STX, and 2 Premier. I purchased the SX's first and used them until this year until I bought the STX's and the Premiers on close out prior to the Revos Gen 3 introduction. I wish I had all STX or Premier. Nothing wrong with the SX reels but the STX's and Premiers feel much better and cast a little longer. I can not say anything about the Gen 3 models but they feel really great on display.

I plan to, I really like the way the reel feels, and the big new handle. Way it fits in my hand etc, but neither of ours perform worth a poop compaired to any of our other abu products, which have always been good to me..

I really hope swapping them out fixes them, both reels have half a days use.

Okay cool thanks and isn't the gen 3 already out? Gen 4 coming soon?
I'm sure the premier is great but the STX is the same without some better materials in some parts.
So STX or carblite for me. Description seems pretty much the same to me cuz they have practically same number ball bearings and dual braking system

The Revo is going to have higher quality components than the Carbon lite. The gears are going to be higher quality, the bearings are more corrosion resistant, the frame is going to be more stout, and the breaking/casting system will be much more refined. You get what you pay for in reels. I would never match up a house brand reel to a top tier company. Even if they are made in the same factory, they aren't made to the same manufacture specs.

I do not have the gen III, but do have each of the Gen IIs. IMO without a doubt the STX way out performs the S series.
