Can you catch these fish deep as well or is it primarily a top-water deal? Will they eat a 1oz jig and a 6XD?

Where in Florida exactly can you catch Peacocks? Brazil and the Amazon are not part of the budget right now.

Thanks

They bite anything! Flukes, Zara Spooks, cranks etc.... They like it more erratic. Not the normal twitch stuff! Problem in Brazil etc... is the pirana tear up your lures, but should be fine in florida.

I personally wouldn't even look into fishing for them in Florida, but that's just me. I think a big one is like 5-8 lbs

They do have them in Miami in some canals. Not very big though. I go to Florida every year for 2 weeks. I usually just fish for largemouth and do a lil saltwater.

I would wait until those locations are affordable. The canals in Fl. are not very exciting to fish. They are basically oversized drainage ditches. You may find a few in the Miami/Coral Gables areas which would allow for boat access but I would save the gas $$ towards a trip to the real deal.

I was in Florida few years back, walked down to a neighborhood canal and there were tons of those little suckers on beds. Got a zebco from walmart and killed them with a 6in senko bit in half. Beautiful fish but biggest was 2lb.

I was stationed in Panama for 4 yrs and used to fish for them on Gatun lake whenever I had days off. It was very common to catch 100 plus fish in the 1-3lb range daily and we fished for them deep (15-20ft) with live minnows. My dad came for a visit and started throwing a chartreuse crappie jig and smoked them as well. I have also fished Miami for them and I enjoyed it the three times I did it. Frank Carbone is who I use in Ft Lauderdale area. You can actually get to Panama pretty cheap. Stay at the Gamboa resort and fish daily with a guide. You will not catch big peacocks there as they are the Butterfly species, but catching fish almost every cast is fun!

If you get a chance I would fish Lake Okeeheelee. It has a lot of small bass but they are very aggressive. weightless worm fishing over the hydrilla worked for me. they rent paddle boats and canoes there also.

Just got back home from Central America this morning....overrated. I wouldn't spend my own money to go there. I hope the same people who are afraid to fish falcon aren't the ones who want to fish down there

I was TDY in Panama years ago and the fishing was awesome. It wasn't hard to put 400-500 fish in the boat a day between two of us.

ElGrande I'd like to know when you were in Panama, we might know each other. And E8 where did you go in central America where you only caught three peacocks? Anyway you can surely catch em deep. Like Grande said 15' and below is where we caught the most fish.I'll be relocating to Panama in about 10 years so I'll guide anyone who wants to fish Gatun for numbers. A fish on every cast for a half hour is a blast.
