my advice to you is if you make a product make it to your standards and whatever you do catch fish:) I started a bait company when my wife was laid off and it just so happened last year during BAsschamps mt brother and I caught fish. The two go hand and hand and if you talk to people that know me you hopefully will see that doing with me is good. I do now have a jersey, a Angler of the year trophy in the man cave/bait shop, 1st and 2nd place plaques etc. At the end of the day it doesn't matter what you do as long as you do it the best you can...

Specially wearing a crisp, high-rider trucker's cap w/mesh back. Mann's was my brand of "pro-staff cap" back then. Freddie Grant wore it better than anyone. Wow Fouzman! Freddie Grant! You just stirred up some dust in this old anglers mind. Have not thought or heard of Freddie Grant in years. I will never forget the first time I met him in person it freaked me out how little he was, camera did not give that away. Bassnat56 I am not sure there is a right answer to your question. I believe for the most part that recognition from our fellow anglers and peers is all the accolades we need beyond our personal self achievement. Now on the other hand if FLW or BASS gave away rings for larger event wins I and most others would wear it proudly but this would be for what for most are once in a lifetime achievements such as Forest Wood Cup or Bassmaster Classic wins. Hope this helps.

Wow. I opened this thread not really knowing what it was... then I was scratching my head.. Then you call out Mark, probably the most level guy on this site(sorry fouz) Grandstaff,Merriman,Climer,Dean,Winans,Smith are all names that are known pretty well around here. None of these guys need a buckle or a ring so that folks know who they are.... nor so that they will forget their own accomplishments. For myself, I think that by the time I forget what I have accomplished in my own fishing career..... I'll be so old that it will no longer matter.

Dark dusty corner of my garage somewhere in a box under the airbrush paint rack and the 12 unused 3700 boxes I think is where they are at. Don't get me wrong I am always happy to get one but outside of myself I ain't worried about anyone seeing them or what they may think of me as an angler. I fish tournaments for me and as long as I am happy the rest is all gravy. I guarantee you I would NEVER wear a belt buckle or a ring that pertained to fishing. I also would never put my stats on the side of a boat. Just seems awfully cheesy to me. Then again I never got the whole name on your boat and engine fad either nor do I care to fish in jerseys for local tournaments, night tournaments or when fun fishing. That being said I am all for whatever makes someone else happy. So in life Mark, nobody has ever asked you what you may have done as an accomplishment in your life other than being alive. Nothing to be proud of? c'mon- you must have one thing in life that has given you the drive to be who you are for what you have done. I don't do accolades- like many folks in life seem to want- in perspective I look at movie stars that strive to get a 'Oscar' for acting- personally that is a field in life they chose to do to make a living- I want to ask- did it save a life, or help a child be a better person or did you do something special for mankind? A sports pro- kids look up to and say I want to be like ... one day, or man I want to be a cop/fireman/jet pilot when I grow up, add nurse, doctor someone who does give back- take lawyers and salesman out of this equation- they will suck your blood if they get a chance. I would wear a belt buckle that shows i did something fun and had a good time doing it- and let those who ask know that I did not kill to get what I have- but to help our sport to grow by showing what can be done even when you have odds stacked against you. Fish do not invite themselves to the hook, nor do deer stand still in a field without a bit of 'help' from a toot of a call..we invoke to get our prize- but with fishing- many of us will return what we catch to live another day. Bears are on a drive- I shall quit while I'm ahead and when I advertise my thing- consider where I am going with it.. Enjoy life it can be very short.. What I posted is my honest opinions. I have an occupation that allows me to be part of some life changing moments on a regular basis and I assure you away from that job you will never find me wearing/displaying anything that reflects that. its not a matter of not being proud its just more of what someone said earlier. When you are successful or good at anything you never have to tell people. They usually just know. I have had some fun moments in fishing and got lucky a few times but I am nowhere near good but I hang around a lot of guys that are among the best we have in this state and none really wear their resume on their sleeves. Most are among the quietest, most unassuming guys you will meet. Before that I used to care a little more what others thought of me in regards to fishing but I also am smart enough to place myself around more successful people and then sit back and observe their habits and their approach and try to improve myself by taking some of that and applying it to my own fishing. I think humility and inner confidence go a long way. That being said I am in no way trying to rain on your parade. You do things how its best for you but since you asked for opinions from the public I shared mine. It might not be right or wrong but its mine and I will stand by it. Mark - I aplaud you for your honesty, while others sit back and cast a few cynical remarks- might want to ask- if I was ever in the limelight once in my life and nobody would recognize me down the road for wha I had done- what would/could I do to show I was there in life. We all at some point in our lives would love to have that '15 minutes of fame" no matter what the venue is- but afterwards when we are with- new friends or kids that never heard of such a thing- how can you show it? pictures fade away and many things get destroyed- heck- we may not have internet in the future then what. I'm not saying that what I have will be the end all of your fame and glory- but you can have one heck of a time telling someone in the future how you got that 'thing'. anyone ever heard of speed skating and an event that for the most part has disappeared- we called it the Tribune Silver Skates Meet- held in Chicago back in the 60's, well I may not have won 1st place- but second got me a shot at an Olympic tryout back in 68- probably a few years before many here-but that moment in time is/was my proudest that no bass can equal. Its called the 'moment'- one that only a handful will ever be able to remember and the trinket given to me at the time will always be held to my highest degree. All I have of it is a memory- lost to a theft back in 94 while spending a day on lake Havasu (a week long visit)- it went with all my trophies, yearbooks from school, and many other things, obviously more important to the thief than what it was to me, never did recover the items- so all I have now are the memories. All I wanted was a honest opinion of what you felt was/could be memorable to you as an angler- money aside from it...
