Drift using a Santee Cooper rig and you'll snag less.

DEERSTRANGLER,
Do you eat those big blues? We had a fish fry last Saturday for a bunch from church and 51 folks ate all the catfish I had. If I targeted the blues, which I intend to do this winter, is it more of a CPR or a grease bath type thing?
Religion is a guy in church thinking about fishing. Relationship is a guy fishing thinking about God!

So I tried to multitask drifting bait on the bottom while doing a little bass fishing and it was a mess. Tangled lines and junk all the time. Couldn't keep my lines tight with the kayak moving different directions "no wind at all" so there wasn't a current to anchor against and stay still. And my rigs liked to get caught up on the bottom when I did drift a bit. It may be my rigging Yeah ... I tried that once (and only once) when I first started yak-fishing with the same results.
This might be the weirdest, most pointless post ever. I am not against golf, since I cannot but suspect it keeps armies of the unworthy from discovering fishing

I don't chum…ever.
I use fresh shad. Shad fillets were the preferred bait this trip. Find the bait and the fish should be close by. I've never ever chummed either....until this past July!!! A friend took me to his "spot" on Lake Fork and in only an hour and 10 minutes we caught an ice chest FULL of the most beautiful channel cats I've ever seen. Only stopped fishing because the ice chest lid wouldn't close. Most kitties were over 3 lbs. TALK ABOUT FISH FRY!!!!!! It can be effective for channels but I don't like calling in a ton of little channels when I try to target blues. You'll catch a few channels from time to time as evidenced in my photo. I never chum anyplace but Arlington. Out there I will spread out some soured cottonseed and then fish with stinkbait right on the bottom with ultralite tackle. The action is fast and furious then. Tiny little reels screaming for mercy.

DEERSTRANGLER,

If I targeted the blues, which I intend to do this winter, is it more of a CPR or a grease bath type thing? Negative. 10lbs and up get a pic and are released. Only exception would be if it was wounded in such a way death was imminent. We only use circle hooks so gut or gill hooking a fish is a great rarity.
