I metioned the Marlin Queen to my grandpa and he had heard of her too. Wonder if it is the same one? I hope so. I like seeing those historic boats around.

Speaking of such Pollyanna was in the harbor. She's been around for a long time. She is beautiful.

I'm back from the trip that started this whole discussion. I went to the Bob Hall Pier Thursday night and the wind was blowing over 20 kts and the fish weren't biting. I saw two Black Tip Sharks over 4 feet caught but that was about it. Couple of guys had been soaking live bait on slide lines trying for kings all day but nothing. No Reds, pretty much dead due to high wind. They said Wednesday had been decent on catching Reds when the wind was calm and water was clear. I went to Port A and took the Jetty boat out at 7 am Friday along with 13 other fisherman. I saw a few keeper Reds caught as soon as we got there in the shallow water on the beach side of the Jetty, nothing big but keepers anyway. They were biting cut mullet and fingerling mullet. After the first half hour it turned slow. I was in a group of about 5 guys and we were catching about one keeper Red per hour. I did manage to pull in a decent Flounder which is in my fridge getting ready to be supper tomorrow. Good luck to anyone heading down this weekend.

Marlin Queen docked down by where deep sea HQ is today - in late 60s- when I was a young man I fished off her - It was a double deck wood boat and had problems handling the rought GOM waters- The boat went under a lot of repair in Aransas Pass, then disappeared, could be the same boat......
The cost to fish off the Marlin queen was around $7.00 to $12.00 (in the 60's) depending on how long the trip....
Also, I dollar each way to get on and off the 9 car ferrys
back then -

Thanks,

The Jetty boat runs from Fisherman's Wharf in Port Aransas. Same company as the Scatcat and Wharfcat. Go to Wharfcat.com for all their info. It departs at 0700 hours and every hour on the hour until Noon and then every two hours until 6 pm I think. Its a 200-300 yard walk from the little pier that the boat drops you off at to get up to the fishing area. I took way too much stuff and had to make two trips to carry it all. A fishing cart or somekind of wagon is really, really nice to cart all your stuff up and down the wall. Cost is $12 for the round trip ride. Good luck,
