Ty Cobb had what was considered an unusual batting stance and he fared pretty well. I tie directly to the jig but if what you are doin is workin...keep ketchn!

The fish pull, you pull back. Almost like a tug of war. Who will win? And to the swivel pic, I like it to look as natural as possible. You get more thumps that way.

IMHO .....i try to break a jaw ANYTIME i even slightly think i have a bite ....
peck , slack line , thump ,sideways line ,quiver etc etc etc,,,,,
i miss a few like we all do ....
i foul hook a few also .....crappie included ......
but then again ....i aint fishin ......
i am "ketchn" ....LOL
so lift gently if you like .....
or pick up to feel the bite ....
....and most fish crappie included will spit the jig on the resistance if you pick up to feel the bite ....
now on the swivel .......
up 18 inches if you want one with a leader .....
and make it a very small swivel #12 maybe .......
of course i dont know for sure i am just there to ketchem ....
we are talkin jigs not minners right fellas ....?
