I was wanting to take my son camping and do a little fishing while we are out at the park. I was wondering if there are any crappie in that lake and for that matter anything else. Any help and recomendations would be really helpful. Thank you.

I went there this summer, there is a bank fishing area on the map they give you at the entrance. The only fish I saw being caught there were perch on worms and a bobber.

They allow small boats on the lake. With a boat you can reach monster bass near the dam.Fishing the bank, they have to come to you and that does not happen very often. Fish early when they are chasing baitfish shallow and you might get lucky.

The lake is stocked with bass, crappie, bluegill, and catfish. However, bass must be 18 inches in length. Catfish have no length limit but you can only keep 5.
Your best bet from the bank is Bluegill. If you can find a bait shop or Pet Smart get crickets. If not, get small worms. Use a #8 or #10 hook under a small bobber.
If you have a boat you will have a much better chance of catching fish. There is a "no wake" speed limit.
By the way, there are no yellow perch in the lake or anywhere else in Texas. The fish the unlearned call perch are various varieties of Sunfish. In Cleburne the varieties are Bluegill and Redear sunfish.
. Seventy five years of chasing the elusive sunfish.

Thanks for all of the info. We will be taking the boat out with us so that might give us an advantage. Thanks again.

Click on the logo in my signature. The picture of the big bass that scrolls across the screen came from Cleburne State Park. There are some big ones in that lake. I somehow always manage to catch one over 6Lbs each time I go out there.

There's also bank fishing access from the last loop of campsites. It's straight accross the lake from the boat ramp. I've seen folks do okay on catfish from there, although the catfish in this lake are pretty small for the most part. There are crappie in the lake but this time of year you'll pretty much need a boat to catch them. As stated above, get yourself some worms or crickets and your son will have a ball catching sunfish. When my kids were small they loved fishing on this lake.

They do allow bigger boats but you can only use a trolling motor.

and yes it is a very GOOD fishing lake. lots of sand bass as well.

Must have changed it up then since I was there a year or so ago, I launched my 2003 Skeeter 19ft bass boat and used the trolling motor.

Been there twice now with my boat and the best luck fish was 2 lbs at the damn on a Fluke.

They do allow bigger boats but you can only use a trolling motor. You can use the big motor Just no wake. I wish Wheeler Branch was that way.... Taking the big boat out you some serious trolling to do on that lake. Better have a 24 volt or better.
