I went out to pre bait a spot that i am going to fish Sunday. When I got there it was shallower then I remembered it being. It was about 2 feet deep for 30 yards or so then quickly falling off into about 12-14' of water. I wasn't real sure how to get my bait out to the drop off but I remembered reading about spods. All I had with me was a water bottle and a medium action spinning rod. I made a makeshift spod out of the bottle and attached it to my line. I could only put a few inches of maize in the bottle and even then I thought my rod would surely break in half. It amazed me how many times in a row I could cast that "spod" out and have it land perfectly not spilling a drop of my bait. Reeling it in it felt like a dump truck. It took a good half hour but I got 2 lbs of maize and a couple hands full of boilies out to the drop off. I came home in search of a better homemade spod and I think I have one figured out. I used 1 1/4" x 5" thin wall PVC with several holes drilled in it. For the nose cone I used a foam practice golf ball and glued it in with foam safe CA glue. For some reason I can't get the pic to attach right now but if it works I'll try to get the pic to load again. It weighs in at 1.6 oz. (too heavy?) and cost about $1.40

Finally got photobucket to upload. I may drill a few more holes in it. I'll wait and see how it does in the water first.

Since i couldnt talk my wife into posing with it for the picture, i thought about putting a condom on it but didn't figure it would be appropriate for the sight.

That's funny. I used the spod this morning. It works good out to about 40 yards. Haven't tried to cast it any further.

I made some pack bait for the first time this morning. It held together good and breaks down fairly quick. The small fish seem to love it. No carp yet.
