Why is it so hard to comprehend the idea that if you are going to take the time to clear timber for a boat lane, wouldn't it make a helluva lot of sense to actually cut the timber at the lowest level possible? I wouldn't think it would any more expensive to cut a tree off at or near the base as opposed to 10 ft above the base. Especially since the water level on LOP fluctuates from one extreme to the other. No, I am not a liberal, and I don't need the COE to ride with me and hold my hand. What I do expect is, for the party responsible for clearing and marking a boat lane that they deem to be a safe navigable route, that they actually do their job. I guess I expect too much.
I do find it odd that the COE has yet to give any reason whatsoever for draining LOP earlier this year. I would love to hear their reasoning for doing this.

I think we have allot more liberals here than most realize.
LOL...please explain why a liberal would want a boat lane cleared correctly. No one holds our hands...I promise ya that! Do you like the city to fix the potholes on your street? I bet you do.....dang liberals! Fixing all those potholes!

Chuck I grew up in White Oak and still spend a considerable time there visiting family. I know LOP pretty much as good as anybody and been fishing it since 72. I am a river rat so I am very familiar with the boat lanes and stumps.

I'm going to make a guess.
Maybe the high level of water release from LOP might be to flush some of the mercury contamination out of the Cypress caused by Red River plant.

You "Bassers" sure get to going when someone makes a statement you do not like, (same as those liberers). The CORP does what it can with the money it has (mostly waste it) I take full responsibility for my actions on the lake and off. I do believe the CORP could do a little more for safety on all CORP lakes I have been on. So ya'll go fishing and watch out for stumps or shallow water, they are on all lakes. it could be obamas fault

maybe they should drain grapevine and cut all the stumps down... I don't think a single person said cut all the stumps down....just the ones in the boat lanes. There is only 3 boat lanes to manage....2 of them are short. That's not asking much. Manage what they built....seems simple. I manage my business and pay taxes....

Graduated in 95. Hope my response earlier was clear with the icons, poking some fun! Back to our previous scheduled program: Have you been over this way much lately? Pines has been pretty low for quite a while. Still think the corps has done a poor job of managing the levels. I think a quick review of the hydrologic data supports my opinion and I highly doubt that anyone is going to sway me on it.

It's YOUR OWN RESPONSIBILITY to protect yourself and be safe. If your not comfortable with your surroundings, idle or use your trolling motor.
It's pretty simple, take responsibility for yourself and use your knowledge and COMMON SENSE to stay safe..

Over 4500 post on this thread, are you kidding me? Curious as to how many of you have voiced your concerns to the authorities to try to do something about it? I was always thought that there are two circles. The circle of concern and the circle of influence. Anyone wanting to really effect change instead of just complaining could reference this thread in an email to the COE or river authority to create change. Or you can continue to complain on the forum about this issue as if that will bring the change you are looking for. Right, I already have emailed my local COE and waiting for their response.

The best part about America and being an American is that we used to take care of issues and be able to solve issues for ourselves and our families. These days more and more want someone aka "big brother" to "show you the way" in life.
#1 it's easy to do for yourself and your own, just do it and stop expecting some mythical "THEY" to make everything work and hold your hand through life.
#2 it's fishing, it's FUN, so stop making it complicated .. lol
