It's just a fish man. Nothing to lose sleep over.

If it was in a big money tournament, that's another story.

It's impossible to get over it until you catch another huge fish and even than you will be haunted with foul memories for the rest for your life. I have about 5 of those nightmares that I'll never forget about...

Sure, keep going back to the same area. I stalked a 30 incher for 6 weeks at Fork. My reward was, finally, getting the fish on(I think),getting wrapped deep, and having the treble hook ripped off the lure body by the fish.

A moment of silence then just keep throwing, and remeber that things have a way of balancing out. Just think of how many good fish you did land that were barely hooked, or the hook fell out as soon as they hit the deck.

I normally yell some bad words, sulk for a few minutes and try again but know I am not getting that fish again.

If there was anything you could've done to prevent it, realize it.. and learn the from the hard knocks. Then, shrug it off and get back out there... because you know you're finally in an area with BIG fish! cheers

First just know ahead of time that things like that can happen. Be as prepared as you can, and if you know you gave yourself the best shot at it, just keep fishing.

Also, it doesnt matter if you just lost a big fish or not... like the lottery, your odds are about the same on the next cast as they were on any other cast you made that day.

Sometimes you can think..."Well that was better than not getting that bite at all."

Well, you lose one, you rig one- just like Quint in Jaws.
Hopefully you won't end up like him in Jaws...
Also, other than that maybe beer, IDK.

Isn't this the same thing you would do if you caught that fish? sarcastic

it is a strange thing, how some fish you should have never boated be it a poor hook set(we all have em), dense cover, missed attempt with a net, etc... And then like the topic here, sometimes everything is going smooth as silk and then poof! gone. Sat evening caught a great fish way in the back of big overhanging pecan tree on a frog, she had every reason to get off but she didnt. Success!...This morning at roughly 9:17 am Hit a big fish on the same frog over a clear spot in the hydrilla. Everything going great even got her clear of the slop. 6' away from the boat the frog just comes out...fish gone FAILURE! Even had a wake boat cussing when I lost her, so you just got to dump all that adrenlin out of your system chunk her hat as far as you can whatever works, avoid the booze lol
