You don't need it. I would go with whatever you have confidence in. I thought that suffix orange braid was the best stuff ever until I stood side by side with someone kickin' my butt fishing with Stren clear blue mono. Now truth be told I think he could have had yarn on his pole and still out did me, but confidence in your set up is important.
I have caught thousands and thousands of fish over the years with Stren Flourescent mono. I think to many people get hung up on what they "have" to have to fish instead of fishing with what they have. BigDozer66

When I'm trolling around I'll often have a rig with heavier line and a rig with a thinner fluoro leader. The thinner fluoro catches more fish for me. It is not a confidence thing in that I'm paddling around a kayak and every fish caught is one that hooked itself and I'm just reeling once I notice the rod tip bouncing (a lot more bass than crappie caught this way). Granted, it may be that the bait is behaving more naturally, going deeper on the thinner line. I also tend to fish heavily fished areas. There are probably a high percentage of fish that have been on someone's line before I'm reeling them in.

Let me explain. No, there is too much. Let me sum up. Buttercup is marry Humperdink in little less than half hour ... Inigo Montoya (Princess Bride)
Fluorocarbon line is good stuff. The question was did he really need it. The definitive answer is NO.The line refracts light close to the same as water so it is practically invisible. The line's density allows it a more rapid descent rate than mono. So if you're fishing conditions would benefit from these properties it's a real asset. Since most of us are not fishing "gin clear" water and are trying for a slow descent rate of our jigs fluoro is overkill. But...you can still catch crappie with it!
Good Luck Out There Folks!

I use Powerpro 10#braid and I Jig fish only. I never use a leader. Most of my fishing buddies do the same and we don't seem to have much trouble. Most of the water we fish is not real clear so I don't think line is that much of an issue.
