What a morning of fishing in San Marcos! Myself and Fred "Rionator" went up to San Marcos and fished the San Marcos River. The bite was on fire. We started out catching some small Greens in the six inch range along with some Redbreast in the 7 to 8 inch range. We then located some very nice fat Bluegills and a few nice Bass. The Bluegills were in the 7 to 8 inch range and the Bass were in the 14 inch range. After a lot of walking and searching for that perfect spot "WE FOUND IT"! The Rio bite was non stop. We caught 13 very nice Rios that were in the 9 to 11 inch range. 11 of the Rios were over 10 inches. All of the Rios were very healthy and fat. The Rios were caught using float techniques with Berkley Power Worms-trout size natural color. The Rios were actually attacking our floats as we moved em across the top of the water. Our ultra lights really got a work out. The water in the San Marcos was clear with very good current.

We broke for lunch and then headed to New Braunfels to fish the Comal River and Lake Dunlap. The fishing was slow on both bodies of water. We did manage to catch a few Redear in the 9 inch range and several fat Bluegills in the 7 to 8 inch range. We quit fishing at 5:00 P.M. The water on the Comal was clear with good current. The water on Lake Dunlap was stained. All fish were released to fight again. A great day of fishing and nailing some very nice Rios. It don't get any better!

we had a lot of fun with these rios, they where very aggresive which made for very exciting strikes, it was like fishing a top water bait.

As for the Rio bite. I have had Bass hit a float and even Gar take a bite on a float. I had never had a Rio strike a float before. This was a first for me. You are right Fred it seemed like top water fishing for sure.

Thanks Ashley and "Cypher" for the replies. Ashley: The Rios are looking much better and most of em don't have those nasty defensive marks. "Cypher". Thanks for the information. You are right about the area being very difficult to fish. Between the very fast current and all of the swimmers and tubers that can be one difficult area to fish. There are however some nice deep pockets with very little people traffic around. You just need to find em.
