The river is spring fed so water is always within a degree + or - of 72. I have seen swimmers at rio vista in the dead of winter. But obviously much fewer than this time of year.

Thanks "Creek Dweller" "Cypher" and Kent for the replies. thumb "Cypher": Have you ever fished or Kayaked on the San Marcos River in the Maxwell/Lulling Area? If so PM me any good locations. I have fished that area in the past and know of a few good spots myself. Kent: The Rios are pretty active in the rivers and creeks. I wish the bite would pick-up on Dunlap. We hit several spots on Dunlap and the Comal yesterday and did not catch or see one Rio. hmmm

Thanks Curtis. cheers I did some checking up. The springs are called the San Marcos Springs and the water is supposed to be some of the clearest in the State. The water is crystal clear all the way to Lulling. Lots of good places to fish along the way! fish

I went snorkeling again on the SM this weekend. It was awesome again but it got pretty cloudy below the swimming beach and tube put in. Above that was great still. BTW I am hopefully getting an underwater camera this week sometime so I can show instead of just tell.

Hey Cypher, I'm a big snorkling fan myself. I didn't get nearly as much snorkling in this year as I have in the past. Due to proximity, I normally snorkel the Guad and the Comal. This year it seemed my normal spots were off colored with not much fish to see (at least compared to previous years). I was heck bent on filming a long perch in his natural enviroment and places where they were stacked up before...nothing!!

So anyway, the point is that if you have an Iphone, you can get a nice water proof case to do your underwater shots. Below is an example I did trying to find the perch (that strip of rapids is normally loaded with them...not a single one this year). I got a Lifeproof case and it works great!! You can only go down about 6-8 ft. but that's about the deepest I go anyway. It's nice to have a water proof phone for many reasons, but underwater filming is the best! (oh and the case cost around $80.00)

Very cool UF! Thanks for sharing. I am seriously considering taking up spearfishing for tilapia. There are some huge ones in there. Never done it. Gotta do some research.
