YEP it helps keeps the meat firm just like it was when shrimp was alive instead of turning that nasty ol pink stankn stuff and can be used next day for bottom fishn as for freezn and putting up for another day can`t remember back that far... fish Bill ..

I catch lots of cats with salted shrimp. If you are going to use it for cats, try to get the larger shrimp, and don't cut em up. The ones I make usually fill a 1/0 circle hook pretty nicely.

Or you could use Gulps and you won't catch the smaller "trash fish"
