How can you find them in a lake? What would they look like a a sonar? Not a down imaging or side imaging just a sonar? What depth are brush piles in and around what part of a lake? Thanks..

It's all depend but a lot of them will be around 15 to 25 feet deep. Regular sonar will show like a mountain or big hill. You can't miss once you go over it. I have a regular sonar and I found it. Caughts lots of crappies. Keep scouting near shore line around 10 to 15 feet and you will see it. Experience will come if you invest your time on it. Good luck

Best way is to load some brush into your boat, go out to the lake, find a drop off or creek channel, throw a buoy marker out & drop the brush on top of it, leave the buoy marker out & make a few passes to see what it looks like on your sonar. I had seen brush on sonar before we did this but it made it so much easier after looking at something with the sonar that I knew exactly what it was. Trust me, you'll build one pile & find two or three more the same day.

Most brushpiles will look like this on regular sonar. Fish shown around it.

Take note that in Ernest's photo it is solid to the bottom. An indication of brush and not fish.

Don't be a wimp when building a brush pile.

Bigger is better.
