hey guys, check out the porker at the bottom of this page! http://www.fayettefishing.com/ I wonder if they had to grease it up to get it to pop into the livewell.

WOW! That is a FAT fish! Huge carp, awesome! Must be loaded with eggs, carp in the USA rarely get that "fat", unlike the bred-for-weight Euro variety. I'm surprised it only took him 10 minutes to bring it in, but I bet all those eggs slowed it down a lot! Nonetheless, an Awesome fish, bet that was a real shock when it slammed his crankbait, just check out that smile on the man's face hehe.
Actually, looking at the pic again, I don't know that it's a carp. I think it might actually be a Smallmouth Buffalo. SMB generally have a much "broader" body like that, top to bottom, then carp do, and they have much lighter scales, just like that one, carp are usually a golden bronze color, with a reddish tail. It also seems to have a downward oriented mouth, like a sucker, which carp don't have. Carp have large lips like that, but their mouth is oriented much more forward, just like a goldfish, while smallmouth buffalo, who are in the sucker family, have mouths that point down when fully extended. Also, the eyes look like buffalo eyes, rather then carp, put them side by side and you'll see what I mean. Also, buffalo tend to be brought in faster then carp, they have a lot of the same brute strength that carp do, but don't often make the huge drag screaming runs, and they don't have as much stamina. Without a close up look at it's mouth, I can't say for sure. Carp have barbels, buffalo don't.
So my guess is that it's actually a Smallmouth Buffalo, commonly confused with common carp. I don't know if that would make it a state record for smallmouth buffalo or not, they get to 80 pounds or more sometimes.
Whatever it is, it's an awesome fish, and I bet that guy had a great time catching it! I know I would. Glad to see he released it alive, my kinda guide!

That fish looks like I felt after Superbowl dinner.

Looking at the picture, I believe that it is a buffalo. Carp have barbels around the mouth, smaller versions of what are found on catfish. Buffalo do not have these.
I caught a 24lb buffalo in the brazos river last year and did a little research on them to find out the differences.

That's a Smallmouth Buffalo. No thinking or question about it. State Record is 82.22 Pounds. Beautiful, Big fish, though. I'm gonna see if I can get one of those at Town Lake in March. Hopefully I'll catch a Carp that big though!

Yep, definitely a smallmouth buffalo. I'll post a pic of each for comparison a little later. Biggest diff is carp have barbels (small whiskers) while buffs do not. Helluva fish though!
