In light of a recent thread, I decided this would make for a good thread. First time I went was back in 06 or 07. Middle of August, it was hot. Flipped brush hogs all day in thick standing timber. Caught three fish. Was not a happy camper. It was my dad's former bosses boat. We may have had 20 pounds between the three of us. Lost the biggest bass of my life at the boat (7 or 8 pounds). Fished a half day the next day and didn't do much better. Didn't have the experience fishing back then that I do now. In hindsight, I wish we would have targeted different areas, but jefe was adamant about flipping trees.

I only flip down there if I have to. First intention is to crank and throw football jig. But our last trip we struggled like crazy until we found a rockpile up the river the size of the boat. Caught fish off it for a day and a half. 2 days before that was like 15 fish days for 25 pounds. After we found it we averaged 35 next day half

I fished Falcon for the second time last Mon., Tues. and Wed. My first trip was the last two days of Jan. On the first trip I caught a ton of huge fish; 30 over 6 lbs one day and 2 over 10 for the two days ... my first ever. My struggles last week were with landing big fish. I lost at least 10 at the boat, several were 10lb fish. I broke three off when they surged under the boat. One straightened a very stout hook. I guess I was putting too much pressure on them. I felt that I had to, because I''d had several big ones throw the hook on a jump. I was fortunate enough to land a 10lb-3oz fish On Wed. Last week.

Only struggles I have at Falcon is trying to digest those chicken fried steaks w/ cheese and gravy and all those beers and crown and cokes each morning from the night before. Sorry, but man I love that place!!

Take lots of antacid pills. Don't worry about having the right baits; the fish will hit a dog terd if you put it in the right place.

My biggest issue is that 90 percent of my trips are just one day. If I don't make the right decisions early I sometimes struggle when others are doing well. Other times it's the other way around. I figure I'm about 50/50 good trips vs not so good. I guess the key to me is not to stick with something too long if it's not working, like i did yesterday flipping jigs.

This last weekend our club fished Falcon and it was my worst tournament ever, and I have been fishing there for 15 years. (Not to mention the heat.) The ramp is just about unusable, there is 1.5' of water there, and with only one lane open, there was a long wait and a lot of hassle. (Note: this is an understatement!) (My motor doesn't like to run in the mud.) The park person said they were planning to put out the metal ramp out on the point like they did years ago when the lake got to 50' low. (It's 37' low now). That can be a hassle too, a 4X4 will be very handy,if not necessary.
You can still launch at the county ramp, but be aware of the old 83 bridge, just under the surface of the water! I read that it has already claimed several lower units.
Add to that agrevation and the extreme heat, we did very poorly fishing, to say the least. There were actually few limits. My partner did manage to catch a 9.88, and a 5 on Saturday, but that was about it.
I was told by a guide, that its not the summer pattern that you would expect, but the fish that were caught were in less than 10 feet, some right up to the rocks.
Just warning you. Stay tuned with Falcon Lake Tackle, for continuing good info.

My struggles were more with having set dates to go and getting unlucky on the weather. I had 3 days in feb 2011 and ice followed me. That was tough because the fishing then was outstanding- sounds like overall it still is, I know I struggle with 20 plus north winds that's for sure.

I heard the pattern is totally off from past years but if ya know what to do you can still have a enjoyable trip. We are heading out wed with 12 people all heading from dallas down to the border. Will report what we figure out!

I was there in Jan and it took me a whole 6 hrs to catch the first DD of my life. The way people make it sound they jump in your boat.
