Hi, I was wondering about something and was hoping you guys could give me some help. I want to make my own catfish dough bait recipe but im worried about what happens when a catfish eats the rotten nasty stuff and then I in turn eat him? On the other hand lets say I do nail this project and I actually come out with a commercial grade bait? What do all of the ingredients need as far as the FDA is concerned to be legal for a commercial catfish bait that will be introduced to the natural envirenment and will be consumed by the fish. Obviusly Im not putting poison in the water but I do have a great idea!!! I want to make sure if it works that I can go commercial with it. Hopefully befroe I put in all the time and energy to make it. Thanks in advance, Alex R.

I would think as long as your ingredients are natural you would be fine, but hopefully someone else who knows will chime in.
I thank God for each day!

Wow?!? You know you could all tell me I can do anything I want and im still going to cover my butt....
Why all the remarks? Its a simple question and my ability to go get a lawyer or CYA was never the topic?
This forum has realy changed in the last few years....
I sometimes wonder if it was for the better.....
P.S. Lawyers are for paperwork and labels not FDA assesments. Thats all on the developer. I was hoping to get first hand experience from someone who has already done it. However im sure most anyone who read this blew me off as a kid throwing pipe dreams, SAD....
Thanks to those that did stay on topic and tried to be helpfull.

You didn't ask a simple question. You asked a particular legal question. Go back and read your post. Particularly the second paragraph!!!!

Maybe you should try contacting the appropriate authorities instead of a bunch of fishermen.

Maybe you should try contacting the appropriate authorities instead of a bunch of fishermen. Well fisherman tend to be very active in fish related activities dont they? So maybe just maybe in the past this has come up before or someone here did some research. Im asking a collective of fisherman for info on a fish related product I dont think this is the worst place to start. This is pre research, research. I promise you I will definitly contact the appropriate authorities and to keep this thread on track who would you call? Im seeing a Ghost Busters line coming. Can we avoid it and actually have a discussion on this topic??? Thanks all,

You should contact the US Army Corps of Engineers, Texas Water Developement Board, Texas Parks and Wildlife, and/or any other jurisditional agency responsible for lake control efforts. If you have a specific compound or chemical you want to use, they should be able to answer your questions on if it is safe to be used in our waters.

Its amazing how many people come on here and ask questions and then blow up on answer. Your title reads "LAWS FOR CATFISH BAIT". Maybe you should question yourself before blowing off on others. The people on this forum especially the catfishing part are more helpfull than they need be. Tom gave you the most logical info that anyone can give. Personally it sounds that you want everyone to make your bait for you. I hope well in your career but starting out ticking of texas catfisherman isnt going to sell your bait. To everyone else HAPPY FISHING!!!!!

nobody ever questioned you ability to contact a lawyer or CYA, we just suggested you should. your question was never fairly simple. When you are talking FDA, commercial and legal opperations, its never SIMPLE. I have gotten LOADS of great information from everyone in this section and i hand down give them all the credit they deserve. I ask the questions about catfishing and what bait they use, i dont ask them about legallaties and other concerns for my own agendas.
I thank God for each day!
