Not be a geek..., But I am one. Before me current profession I was a geologist. One of the things we learn is that there have been 5 mass extinctions on the planet. The most famous caused by an asteroid that helped wipe out the dino's. But by far the most devastating extinction occurred in the devonion time period and it was caused by....??? a Clam. 90% off all life in the ocean (no life on land yet), were smothered by one species of clam that had the ability to dig. All life at that time were filter feeders and when this extra sediment was blown into the water from digging clams, they snuffed out 90% all critters. weird that the opposite effect happens with the zebra muscle where they actually clean the water TOO well.

You know this is bad news for RR. But I wonder what a impact it will have on boating traffic? Also what a impact it will have on fishing traffic/pressure on the lake.
And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. Matthew 4:19

They will be in all of our lakes soon. It took less than 3 years for them to move from Texoma to RR. Our water districts have had time to come up with a solution or a diversion and did not act. They have been in the U.S. since the 80's (East Coast). Now the cost of further prevention and damage will be placed on us because no one was proactive about doing something while knowing it was coming!

We just need to spread the word that zebra mussels taste better than crappie and there is no bag limit on them.
Or
We just need to whisper that they taste better than crappie and that it is illegal to disturb, possess them.
Either way, they will be on the endangered species list soon. Funny... I just hope that if they do turn out to be really bad for fishing that TPWD attacks them with the vigor that they have hydrilla. That's an invasive species too you know! As we all know theyve adopted a scorched earth policy there! Hopefully they won't end up being the problem they have been farther north. There's some evidence that suggests that our water temps and conditions might keep them from getting too out of control. Only time will tell though.
