I was fishing in Little Caney one day on Fork and had some guys come in the cove I was in fishing with big shiners. They were catching fish right out of the gate in fairly descent numbers, but before they left I think they were wishing the were throwing what ever it was I was fishing with, 'cause I had broke out my finesse rig and I was matching them fish for fish. All of mine were LMB's and a good part of their catch was Blue Cat.......

I would call livebait fishermen/women more of a purist than a potlicker! fish

I asked this same question this week on here via a PM to another member...My question was asking for some info on Lake Holbrook since I have never been on the lake and we are having a night tourny. I was called a pot-licker, so I fired off a PM to this gentlemen to find out was it was...Below is the text from that PM.

Internet pre-fishing, watching somebody catch fish and move in on them, fishing a hole someone showed you and they are in the same tournament. All of that would be considered POT-LICKING
I am just giving you a hard time. I have fished with the McKinney club for a few years and have laid out this year so far. Me and Dan McVicker won the club tournament out there a few years ago throwing weightless senkos on the shallow end.

It's also a chinese "pastry" deep fried and dipped in hoisin sause or hot mustard or plum sauce. Potlicker means a bunch of things. LOL I have a whole bunch of descriptive descriptions for those who will pull right up side you when they see you catch any fish and dang near cast over your lines. None are for polite society.

I heard my grand dad use this term "Potlicker" when I was a child, he was refering to the juice from a pot full of turnip greens, mustard greens, or collard greens. He used to pour "potlicker" over crumbled up cornbread and eat it..........When I first read the name of this thread I thought to myself what does turnip green juice have to do with bass fishing.........

I actually witnessed this for the first time on Fork this Sunday. I had a bouy marker out fishind a deep drop off. I was only using the marker as a reference and it was not on the sweet spot. Two guys idled about 500 yards and literally bumped my bouy and marked a waypoint as he passed by. I was amazed. I didnt say anything and just laughed it off.

I always knew that term to mean inexperience. Like in the old days when guys would go on 2,3,4 day trips and eat what they catch. The guy who didn't catch would have to rely on those that did, ie: "lick their pot"

The definition of a potlicker is:
One who crowds out someone else's fishing spot...Example below:
I was run off of my Crappie hole by a potlicker with live minnows. I guess I'll go home and punch the clown. peep

I can remember my dad and his friends doing that....They'd take all the basic staples with them but the fish and they would eat part of what they caught and bring the rest home to go in the freezer. Their fish of choice wasn't the LMB though, it was bluegills, it was nothing for them to come home with over 400 fish........

There are a bunch of em on Fork and people aren't afraid to use the bent pole pattern!

.....But Ozzie's holes are sacred ground and should only be fished with caution!
