Lobina Rico, Don Iovino Splash it and Yellow Magic all seem to be the same minus paint jobs. Not sure if they are from the same factory or what.
I have never understood why people have particular colors of yellow magics, all the fancy painting is on the top and the bellys are all the same minus the black/gold color. I agree but i know color makes a huge difference in clear water for smallmouth. Ive seen them nose up to certain colors then i make a switch and they crush it.

So the belly on yellow magics is white/glitter...all the fancy paint is on the top. How does that make any difference?

I have to agree with Cameraon. I stripped all 3 of those down to it's clear body and they are EXACTLY alike. That is when Don Iovina had his clear ones on sale at $3.99 (about 9 years ago), I bought 50 of them. Paint them as I need them. For some reason, they seem to catch fish in different types of water, dunno about that. My oldest YM is 14 years old and still going strong (except replaced the hooks 3 or 4 times).
Cameron, I do not know WHY color makes a difference to the bass, but sometimes, it DOES. I have tried clear ones against alewife and baby bass and it seems that they had something specific to each of thsoe colors. No bites on one, then clean the house with another color. Ralph Manns cannot explain why color is sometimes the ONLY thing that makes a difference, but sometimes, it does. Hypothetically, it could be the reflection of the painted body into the water that resembles something they are eating. For some reason, they like the painted lures MUCH more than the clear lures, MOST of the time. The best bites I get with the clear lures are in odd situations, like fairly stained water, water with visability of less than 18". Then they work GREAT in clear water. Whatever you do, DO NOT PAINT ONE BLACK for night fishing, especially where big bass live. Yer heart cannot stand it.
Hope this helps. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

I dont try and analyze it that much. I just know in very clear water, 15ft visability, that it definitely makes a difference. Now in most east tx lakes, does it matter if you are throwing a shad pattern or gold, i doubt it.
