Grout-Scout and others, I have a question on your pictures compared to mine and others. I don't know the terminology so apology ahead a time for my lack of it. I am getting good returns but noticed that my white center line is choppy compared to some others. I am in smooth waters, 10 to 30' and at about 3 to 4 mph yet I am seeing on side and down a sloppy white center line. Why? Also, I have a double shadow feed back off to both port and starboard at the same place. I can adjust down my contrast but then I get too dark of shadowing/return. What is this "dark line" on both sides? Depth - I changed all my fishing modes, but was trying to scan and down image 80 to 120' and the deeper I went, the worse my return. Is there a trick to shooting deep water? Lastly, is there somewhere that "settings" are listed so that I can compare to how I have mine set v. the way the "pros" have theirs set? Here is an example photo of the white broken lines and dark shadowing on port and starboard and my downimage with the white broken line at 0 to 4ish feet.

What trolling motor transducer would I use on a Lowrance elite 5x? You would need either the PDT-WSU (106-50) or just use the transom mount transducer that comes with the unit and get the trolling motor adapter TMB-S (51-45) ....About $20.00 shipped. Brian

Man I am jealous, I cannot even come close to seeing images like this. I am going to try and lower the LSS ducer to see if I can get nice images like all these on the forum.

Heck Wildman, I think your pics/returns are better than mine! The top white lines are coming from something on the boat, it might be the lower unit or a jackplate. I get them from my jackplate. As far as the double dark return lines on the lake floor, those just appear to be a ledge or dropoff. The sonar can't see so it comes back as a dark or blank spot (shadow, so to speak). Same thing happens behind bridge pillars, trees, rocks, etc. Deep water? About as deep as these work is 100ft. The only settings you can change on the ss is contrast, 455 or 800 & distance.

No you dudes don't understand, when I go scuba diving I see things a lot more clearly. The Lowrance commercial said......... :-)
guess I need to shut up and just fish if they look that good to you'll. Maybe it is my "dead wood" is just not thick limbed trees. And the drop-off or "ridge" makes perfect since on the shadowing. I never put that together but do know when I go over a hole or a hump it shadows so I think you nailed it.

Groutscout, I read through all those too before posting here. I wish I could get some straight help from Lowrance. The only thing that is aggraviting me with my head unit is the reboot [censored]. It seems that it cannot keep up with my button pushing. If I try to get menus up or move softkeys too much, it locks up and then reboots; sometimes over and over.
I contacted Lowrance and have yet to get a straight answer even after all their direction.
Thanks for the links. Some lurkers will benifit from those on research.

Yep Lowrance seems to have a serious reboot problem and they sure are denying it for sure. I'm guessing they don't have a fix so they are playing stupid. I only had it happen once and after buying a new battery it helped my problem, my cranker didn't have quite enough juice.
Are you running a gen 1 graph or gen 2 graph? If gen 1, which update do you have 4.0 or 4.1?

I put an older lms 334c-igps unit on the front and am installing an old 2008 FHS pro. I must be missing a step because it does not appear to be working. I go to map data and it shows Lowrance and the files show it to be there. Is there a upload step I am missing? Can't find anything else in the manual to assist me. Thank you
