I've recently spooled Power Pro braid and the Suffix 832. Both are working like a charm and a line pick easily gets a backlash out. But backlashes have been very rare.

Do you have mono backing spooled?

My understanding is you MUST have backing.

I dont use PP and never did, was never a fan of its qualities. I know alot of people on here use it and swear by it but it just wasnt for me.

I do use invisibrade tho. Its supple, durable, casts and piches well, doesnt bleed and it wrapps on the spool very well. Its a little pricey but I have grown into it.

I went through the whole pre-spawn, spawn, and into the post spawn w/o incident using #50 braid. A total of 2 DD'S and several other large fish. BOOM! starting 1st of june I suffered break off after break off. I change out my line every month and I dont think I had a bad spool as I changed it out after the 2nd break, and continued to have problems. I dont care if Im laughed at here but I have gone to #80 on my frog & slop fishing and have not had any further issues. When I see a small fish (3-4 pounds) break my line on a few reeds there is a problem. I was using #50 invisi-braid. The suffix performance #65 seems to be working a bit better on my swim jig...
Trust me I have spent a many of nights pondering what has occurred with this line problem, I have no definative answers.

30 is a little light in my mind. 50-65 for most applications. I use 30 on my spinning reel. I have been using Power Pro lately and only have 1 complaint. When I put flouro leader on it, the rough braid eats into the flouro and weakens the knot. I was using Spider Wire stealth never had any problems like this. The stealth is smooth and does not cut into the flouro. Now I use PP on my baitcasters that will never have a leader. SW stealth on all my spinning rods where I use leaders.

I hear you on the big game though. If I could 1/8 oz. skakeyheads with 20 lb. Big game, I would. For spinning reels, braid is a God sent for me. Never realized I could throw 30 lb. line line better than 10 lb. mono.

Set the hook first, ask questions later!!!

If you really want to try braid, spend the money on Daiwa samurai braid, 50lb and up. Next best is suffix 832.
