Wildman, the speed looks the same to me. In fact they even measure the same distance from the top/front of the screen. You got it setup pretty well, nice clear pics.

Well, that is good to know. I have the LSS-1 transducer pretty far off of center of the boat and it is on a Panga Marine Skiff so balance is a problem with port or starboard passenger weight or "wave" action from wind or passing boats (jet fleas).
We are Striper fishing it tomorrow so hopefully I can practice more with it. What a great tool.
So no lower unit shadowing that you can see?

My buddy has a HDS 10 at the console & a HDS8 on the bow. He has a mild case of demetia and has not learned to use either unit and I am just as dumb. Here is my first question: Why does the bow unit take 3-10 minutes to come on? Unit will display the Lowrance name and 3-10 minutes later will start scrolling across the bottom and will come on finally. What is the problem? Second question: We(I) cannot get the 10 to set up and show what is on either side of the boat, where is info helping to set it up so the scan mode will show? Thanks

Wildman, are you referring to the line at the top (center) of the water column? If so it could be the skeg/lwr unit. I get five lines like that from the sonar bouncing around inside my jackplate, not sure theres alot you can do to fix that if it is the lower unit.

Dlallder, the unit has something wrong with it. It should come on, show Lowrance for 30-60 seconds and then have the agreement/safety page. You could try a soft reset and see if it helps.
On the 10, are you saying that you can't get the structure scan to show side scan mode? Just gonna ask a few questions and answer them. Do you have the LSS module? If so, are you getting down images? By answering those I can help you better.
One more thing, if you really want to learn alot about Lowrance go over to bassboatcentral.com. Enter the boards section and find the Lowrance page. Lots and lots of info there.

grout-scout, I will try the soft reset on the 8. On the 10, no i can not get side scan but that may be because I don't know which buttons to push & in what order. Yes the unit has the LSS. Thanks for any help you can give.

Yep, that is where I am looking. The bright center return line. I noticed on the 2000 posts I read :-) that might be the lower unit interfering with the transmit of the signal but I am jacked has high as I can get. If the shots look solid and clean then I am good to go. You said they were pretty good, so am am calling it done. More pictures to come, I am sure.

I have a lcx27c on the bow and a hds8 gen 2 with the lss2, I'm trying to run both units GPS off the hds8 and I already have Ethernet hooked between them and I can't get them to share, do I need to run a antenna cable to each unit to get them to share? If not what am I missing?

I understand its very important to get your transduser level with your boat. I have a HDS 8 with the gen 2 side imiging and down scan. When I installed the LSS1 transducer i just made it level with the top cap of my boat. But I got to thinking the boat dont really set level in the water, its a little rear heavy. Should I adjust the transducer up to get better quality?

The most accurate way I know of is to bring a level in the boat with you next time out. Load the boat with full tanks , your fishing buddy, full livewells etc. However you would normally weight the boat.
Put the level on the back deck and mark it. Apply that same angle to the LSS transducer and you should be pretty close to where you need to be.

If you make the LSS transducer level with the boat, you will probably not be happy with the clarity of your images.
What you want if to have the transducer level with the water surfaace when traveling at 4-6 MPH.
From an earlier page of this thread:
"Like you, I was also discouraged my first couple of trips. Got to noticing that vertical objects had a slight curve to them. That can't be, so I got my digital level in the boat and measured the angle of the boat when traveling at 4-6 MPH. Got back on the trailor and adjusted the fore-to-aft angle of the side scan transducer so it would be level when moving at 4-6 MPH. Wow; big difference in image quality."
BTW you can get a great little digital level app for your iPhone.

What trolling motor transducer would I use on a Lowrance elite 5x?

Just so we're clear, putting a level on your back deck and applying that same angle to your LSS transducer will make your transducer parallel to the surface of the water.

Brian You are exactly correct as long as we account for bow rise when we travel (3-6 MPH). Bow rise can amount to several degreees. Therefore, the angle should only be measured when at the appropriate travel speed with the appropriate load.
