I took 1 1/2" pvc pipe 4 tees and 1 cap. And a umbrella from the dollar store for about $12. I got the one that will break over to a 45 degree angle so you can put it behind you. It is fairly self explainatory but the cap goes under the umbrella rod to keep it from wearing on the carpet. I made it as tall as my seat post would allow and it took about 12" for the long peices to clear the back of the seat. I have not got a chance to use it but a guy I work with says it makes a huge difference. I was thinking of putting a bimini top on my boat but I think it would be in the way when it is folded down. This is easily removable when it is not needed and can be stored in a rod locker.

Seems like a good idea. Let us know how it works out.

Made mine years ago--only difference was 90* turn at bottom (where jpeveto has cap) and large golf umbrella from Academy. The cap is probably a better idea. I also used 1-1/2 PVC upright to keep the umbrella approx. 2ft. above my head. It seemed like if it was any closer you felt the heat.
You have to make a semi-side arm cast, but it is well worth the having the sun off of you most of the time.

Works great. Made the 1st one over 2 years ago. No rails to fish around. seems to have taken off pretty good.

Treebass yours looks real nice. I went for the dollar store umbrella for now but will probaly upgrade to a nice one like yours when this one breaks. Have any of yall notice about how much wind it takes to start affecting the umbrella and the holder.
The idea was given to me and I was just passing it along to others who may have not thought about it. and thanks for the compliments.

I've drilled a hole, to slip a pin in mine. with it pinned you will not have a problem with it slipping up. I can idle at a decent clip without having to worry about the unbrella, I would say 6-8 MPH. But I also made mine of metal, so not sure what the PVC would withstand. we have a Grizzly Double Seat on the front of our boat, the use a pin, to slide into the pedistol. Guys that didn't use the double seat didn't have the pedistol available for use, due to the single seat setting in the pedistol. Here is the one we build to fit our boat, then guys make a few different way to support the unbrella. This was my brothers boat, and as you can see in the PICS, there was about 6"-8" left on each side of the Grizzly Double Seat frame that was wasted space. So when we went to work on my boat, we built our own Double Seat Frame, and added the tube to hold the umbrella to the frame. This frame used the complete width of the boat, and gave us an extra 1+ foot between the seats for elbow room. It worked out so well, that sold the Grizzly Double Seat frame, and built our version for my brothers boat, giving him the extra space, and umbrella tube. keith
