Carey,

Which Near Deere fly is best to use, the sparkling olive one? I think I read somewhere you have a special color too that isn't on your site. I could use some help with landing fish.

I just realized you have me in one of your pics, on the first page of this post, the third one from top (it was the really really COLD day back on 2/12). smile

When you order them, order the crawfish pattern. Then email me letting me know you want the colors I use mainly.

Please allow 2 weeks for delivery. I tie per order.

4 lb Vanish during the week.
2 lb Vanish during the weekends.

I dont buy tippit anymore. Same stuff as buying a whole spool of Vanish and you get 300 yards instead of 30 yards.

http://www.basspro.com/Berkley-Vanish-Fl...roductname_link

http://www.basspro.com/RIO-Fluoroflex-Plus-Fluorocarbon-Tippet/product/97163/82603

The Diameter is minimal. Plus the whole sppol of Vanish will last you a long long time. I pull off 8 ft at a time and have 7 ft left over after tying and all. Slap on an indicator. Fish it right off the bottom or if they are higher up in the column, raise it up.

Same deal different day. The stocking truck dumped 100 trout in one small hole on lost creek, and 40 in the deep hole. Lazy.

No clue on the trout tally, but we caught lots.

I decided to take the guys to zone three to look for a walleye. Trout were no where that day. Saw four walleye and Bill got one! Also some crappie and some 9 inch sunfish.

Passed by a kid in the Evening Hole at about 8 am. He had nothing so far. Handed him a Near Deere and said "have fun". Passed him again and he said he landed a 17 incher. Two hours later, he had 19 trout to hand.

Nothing big this trip. Saw diff people hauling limits out of Spillway Creek. They were bumping minnows on the bottom. They each bought 12 minnows and one guy used 1 minnow, rehooking it, for five of his six fish. They all limited in 15 mins. Summertime fishing at it's best.

Near Deere's Ruled the Day.

Sorry, but if you think a spool of Vanish is the same as a spool of quality tippit you are completely wrong.

look at the facts

2 lb vanish is .006" diameter

5x (5 lb)Rio Fluroflex tippit is .006" diameter

you can get 2.5x stronger line in the same diameter by using a quality tippit, that is why it cost more.

Yes this is very minimal, especially when you are talking about hatchery fish, and when it comes to warm water species i use a spool of flourocarbon over tippit spools. But on more technical waters it can make a big difference.

Vanish is cheaper. And they are stockers.

When I go to Utah to fish the Green, I use what all the purists use. Wild trout are way different than stockers. My clients have an option of traditional midge/dry fly fishing the Purist Way, or just there to get a high talley with big fish thrown in, and a chance at a couple walleye. Most pick, just there to catch a ton of fish. Every client has their own ideas of what they want out of a trip, I follow what they want and I have never had one complaint.

Like I said, I'm no purist with stocked fish. I can catch them your way and I can catch them my way. What ever you opinion on how high up the Purist Totum Poll you wanna go, that's your deal. Not mine. I like to catch a ton of fish after putting 150 miles on the truck. That way my big fish ratio goes way up. 20-25 inchers are why I'm there. Not a small trout with par markings. Cool to see wild trout, but when it hits 12-14 inches, I bet it ends up on a grill somewhere, no matter what zone it grows up in.

Again, I use vanish cause it's economical. Tapered leader is expensive, tippet is expensive. Most people want to throw the Near Deere and just plain catch fish.
